JESSE MCCARTNEY, the alleged Prince of Pop, has sold 2 million records which makes me wonder if the music industry is really in the endangered position it claims to hold. A preview of some of the material from Departure confirms that I’m thankful for remixers like MSTRKRFT who transform a piece like Leavin’ into something uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh, easier to swallow.
MP3: Jesse McCartney - Leavin’ (MSTRKRFT remix)

A couple years ago, the first MSTRKRFT track I heard was “Paris” - an epic banger that quenched a long thirst for growling beats. It’s funny though, now I prefer the mashup below more than the original. If you’re unfamiliar, you can change that now. Included with the bundle is a remix that MSTRKRFT cut for Toronto’s indie darlings, Metric.

The latest release from TWEROK RECORDS starts a bit slow so at first I was expecting something minimal which is ordinarily quite refreshing. PATRICK L only takes a minute to let the oscillation loose where pounding wobbly basslines and bubbly synth bursts harmonize nicely with haunting analogue warmth.
MP3: Patrick Fiske - Receiver (Patrick L Mix)
Patrick L, who also runs the Swedish label sent a dynamite mix with the tune.

It’s difficult to find any commonality between the reconstruction and the original which makes me curious to know how the Hollywood thunder addicts went about creating this remix. Regardless NITE CELLS crunch a pleasant indie tune into a grinding monster so thick and heavy, low-end frequencies ooze from throbbing speakers whenever the track is played.

Three more tracks on high rotation here at Manalogue, all of them loosely fitting into what I call ROBOTGLAM. They all shimmer like hair metal did 20 years ago, except guitars have been replaced by drum machines and synthesizers. Play them for yer Gran and watch her get down.

First up is another production by GRUM. Built largely on a house music platform this tune bursts with neon flashes and sparkly synth highlights.
MP3: GRUM - Heartbeats (Edwin Van Cleef remix)
(**This will be getting a full release soon so the link had to be removed.)

The next track rolls out somewhat of a disco vocal on top of the Hail Social’s cyborg chorus of brightly distorted and flanged keyboards.
MP3: Hail Social - Heaven (Designer Drugs remix)

This remix of Damn Arms brings in a full spectral sonic assult and sounds like it should be accompanied with a laser lightshow at all times. Deadly.

If you haven’t already acquainted yourself, check out Jason Funk Permanand (AKA Lotek) and his posts on MASHUPTOWN. Jason’s last post is a brave example of reconstructionalism, an art form that will probably be documented and studied as part of the postmodern movement, or whatever that means. Okay, maybe Nirvana’s Come As You Are vs. The Superman Lovers’ Starlight won’t change the world, but it might blow your mind.

Check it here.
And Overdub here.

Although entirely different in scope and purpose I thought I could direct your attention to an outstanding reconstruction of Smells Like Teen Spirit. Patrick Alavi cuts up the grunge classic into a gritty electro stomper.

The Fire and Reason are a bit over indulgent, but they still get the job done. Check their free EP here or check out the single.
MP3: The Fire and Reason - Sugar Koma

The EP includes a remix by The Toxic Avenger which has been everywhere for a minute now but here it is on its own if you slept on it.

ROMANOFF do up some squelchy acid-like tweakery in their latest hot steppa! The robot glam shining with synth kills it too. Epic man.
MP3: ROMANOFF - ZOMBIE BITE
Check out their “two minute hot steppa” from last month (at the old blog).
Do I use “hot steppas” too much?

Wow. George get’s all the hot dance numbers this week. Tuesday Moby was on the show, and yesterday Kylie Minogue made an appearance, in the form of a re-run mind you. The Aussie superstar dropped her surname and goes by Kylie now, perhaps in pursuit of a more simple marketing scheme. Anyway, she’s undergone more transformations than Madonna could shake her somethings at. Check the rundown.
Pop Tart Princes

As a kid I was all about this song. I danced to it at a sock hop in elementary school. Werd up.
MP3: Kylie Minogue - The Locomotion
Soft and Vicious VIXEN

From 2001 to 2003 I worked at a software company in Vancouver. I travelled to Toronto countless times and Kylie was always the soundtrack. The CFO and I got all jiggy whenever we heard her.
MP3: Kylie Minogue - Can’t Get You Out of My Head
BONUS: DJ DUBZ - Can’t Get You to Shut Up (Kylie Minogue vs. Black Eyed Peas)
UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHH

When I lived in Brighton I picked up this limited edition picture disc. Unfortunately the better remixes are on the flip so I don’t get to see Kylie spinning round baby right round…er sumthin like that.
MP3: Kylie - Slow (Radio Slave remix)
MP3: Kylie - Slow (Medicine 8 remix)
Electro Queen

Not that all her new tunes could be called electro, it seems as though she’s sculpted that sort of image for herself. The list of commissioned and bootleg remixes help her out with this identity a bit - so does this picture.
