JAY-J + COCA-COLA + HAPPINESS

Wednesday, July 16, 2008

Jay-J

As the world joins together for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games this summer, Coca-Cola invited artists from around the globe to jointly depict what this monumental occasion means to them. The alliance of visual and musical artists from different lands started with eight blank canvasses of aluminum contour bottles – and eight corresponding themes reflecting the possibilities for happiness and connection from both the COKE SIDE OF LIFE platform and the upcoming global gathering in Beijing.

Through a unique collaboration, eight of China’s most-exciting visual artists (individual graphic designers and design teams) were united with eight progressive musicians from various countries to interpret – through the sharing and expression of eight themes – the ideas and passions that connect people.

Each musical artist - Tiësto, Benny Benassi, Kaskade, Jes, Serge Devant, Lucas Prata, Cezar and Jay-J—have each been provided with a theme and using music as their form of expression, created a song that expanded on their inspiration drawn from the theme.

Jay-J’s assigned theme was Happiness and this is what he came up with.

I wonder if the spirit that Coca-Cola is bringing to the games will be monitored and controlled as much as the spectators of the games. China and it’s government released a list of what can and cannot be done. Large banners and flags are banned presumably to prevent political protests. Spectators are also prohibited from gathering in groups in matching colours and attire. Gambling along with streaking is also prohibited. The most bizarre rule however involves babies - you can bring them as long as they don’t cry. Seriously.

The Jay-J track was the forth release of the WE8 project and the kind folks at Coke just sent the previous three, so here they are in reverse chronological order.

THE WHITE TIE AFFAIR

The White Tie Affair

THE WHITE TIE AFFAIR are from Chicago. Judging from the looks of these guys you might think they’re a bunch of try-hards who thought they might have better luck with the ladies by being in a band. They have really well manicured coifs and is the tall dood really wearing a brass knuckle pendant? Let’s just say they’re into a scene I don’t really understand, mostly because I only have one dimension and points to the dancefloor. Thankfully they sent an unreleased remix we all can jive to.

See the ladies in the background?

If your little sister likes bands like Fall Out Boy and Maroon 5 tell her to check out the original.

CHRIS ROCKWELL & SOUL SELECTRO

Wednesday, July 16, 2008

I wanted to post this a week ago already but a trip out west to see family and friends prevented me from giving this the undivided attention it deserved.

Chris recorded this Soul Selectro promo mix to promote the launch of SoulSelecta.ca. Recorded with Ableton, Chris says the mix was meant to be a collection of his favorite tracks from the last year or so. I wouldn’t know because I haven’t had the pleasure to see the man play but apparently Ottawa locals can hear these tracks at his Friday and Saturday night residency at Cornerstone in the Byward Market. Many of these cuts are Manalogue favourites and should be yours too. The newest school of mixing is nice for those suffering from ADD because of the rapid fire mixes. Chris gets to the punch cycling through 50 cuts in a mere 60 minutes. This one has lotsa flava and should keep your girlfriend happy on long drives, especially when she’s annoyed at your monotonous, slow-moving playlist. Turn this one up and don’t be afraid to take some clothes off if the party heat burns you up.

Here’s a quick post cuz it’s summer. A fellow named AFRIQUE DELUXE or UK PRODUCER (I’m not sure) hit me up with some fresh pop music and vocoder action.
