CROSSTOWN RIVALS + VITAMINSFORYOU

BETTER SWIMMERS who have been promoting shows in Winnipeg for some time now have launched a digital record label to showcase (but won’t be limited to) local/Canadian talent. They’re offering up their first release as a free download for the newly minted label’s debut release. CROSSTOWN RIVALS is a Winnipeg based 4-piece who call under the indiefuzzdancerockers (or something like that) category. The single, ‘Exits’ includes remixes by Vitaminsforyou, Get Famous! + DJ Co-op. You can download the EP, including the original, over at: http://betterswimmers.com.

Local hero DJ CO-OP lets loose a robotic western, full of romance and laser beams. (WTF? Didn’t know you had it in you Tim!) GET FAMOUS!carry the heavyweight title with their stompy kick drums and ragged melodies. Here though, is the  VITAMINSFORYOUremix full of echoing synth stabs and bursting gooey basslines.

MR VEGA

A little short on bio information, MR. VEGA consists of him, his wife and his son. Oh and they’re from Brooklyn. They’re giving away their latest album for free.

Y0u can keep this one on repeat. It’s hard to do that with long players, but this one offers enough variety while still keeping the bpm up. Warehouse party inspired electro, to Brooklyn fidgit and back, with wobbly combinations of both in a few tracks.

MIAMI HORROR

This band’s not from Miami and neither is the dj / producer who releases material under the same name. MIAMI HORROR is from Melbourn and he crafts of 80s inspired italo disco. Super deluxe and super glam. His back catalogue is quite impressive too, focusing on timeless melodies juxtaposed with retro futuristic dance robotics. The entire “Bravado” EP blows my mind. I hope to bring it back over and over again.

CHEWY CHOCOLATE COOKIES used to hand their bootlegs out to bloggers as if they were flyers. They have a lengthy discography too, one that unfolds into a pile of remixes and more recently added some originals to their stack. They’ve since held back on the freebees, which is proof that if you work hard enough you’ll get a little payback. Ahem. They’re latest EP is now on beatport.

Underworld + Orbital

I was ploughing through my weekly record dig in Montréal when I came across a few jems from my childhood. 3 albums glowing like lighthouses in the black vinyl sea I had been swimming in for the last 2 hours. THE ORB – Live ’93, UNDERWORLD – Beaucoup Fish, & ORBITAL – Snivilisation. Doing some quick calculations in my head, I realize the horror of my financial situation. I only had enough money for one of the records…

We All Wanna Be Albertan

Hey Folks,

I was on vacay in the land of Oil and Cows for the Stampede! It was pretty awesome, but I didn’t have a chance to listen to any of the cool tunes coming in to the Submissions inbox. So sorry, but this track is hot of the presses and is fun to listen to.

FELIX DA HOUSECAT – WE ALL WANNA BE PRINCE (stream from iLike)

I guess the label doesn’t want to dish out the hot hot 320 for us bloggers yet, so this will have to do for now. The single is getting the remix treatment from PAPER FACES (AKA The Killers/Madonna/Seal super-producer Stuart Price), JOACHIM GARRAUD, DANNY HOWELLS, GREY GHOST & DETH HERTZ , and PORT-ROYAL.

The single will be availble July 28th and will be well worth it to finish of the summer with a HUGE BANG! For a taste of the remixes check out AMAZON. The album it’s self is called He Was King and will be out August 25th.

All the way from L.A. CONFETTI brings LAZRtag to Winnipeg. The producing / remixing / djing pair have been heating up dancefloors for a minute already and with their remix of “Crimewave” hitting the HYPE MACHINE‘s Zeitgeist list for 2008 the duo have created a demand for everything they do.
I was lucky enough to see their gear rider for the show. Vinh and Erik embrace the future of djing by doing more than just play records. They’re adding a live production element with the assistance of two M-Audio Trigger Finger midi controllers. The show will be insane. If you’re in Winnipeg, get in on this. After months of hype, DIM MAK has released the LAIDBACK LUKE and DIPLO colaboration. The label have been keeping the single on the hush until now so I don’t even have a 128 to share…but I do have a video of the Dutch producer playing the track. Sorry that’s so lame but it’s all that the higher powers gave me and I’m really digging the tune so…

You can grab the tune from beatport, or somewhere like that. Luke van Sheppingen has built his reputation on quality bootlegs, remixes, and a tight association with the Swedish House Mafia. Show your support with a click or two.

HOSTAGE put together a deluxe mix with Foamo’s remix (which is probably the best in the package). You can grab that mix here.
