Growing up as a small town DJ in Lethbridge, Alberta, you tend to get to know all the other DJs in town (all 10 of them) and it really forces you to broaden your musical horizons. I remember going to parties and hearing a house DJ followed by a drum & bass DJ followed by a gabber/hardcore DJ followed by a trance DJ. Above all, about 70% of the DJ population were drum & bass junkies. I still remember when we got a hold of a copy of Vinyl Syndicate – Man Of Steel in ’97.
On the same level of epic-ness, POLA-RIOT from Vienna drop the Superman themed Superpimpin’ with heavy peaktime energy and slutty basslines. This is the kind of track for a strobelight only warehouse party.
With equal energy and bounce, POLA-RIOT‘s remix of STARDUST reminds me why I’m still dancing over a decade later…

LINUS LOVES released ‘Prom Night’ earlier this year on the Breastfed offshoot label, 21:21. The hype made its way to DON DIABLO who pulls the track away the carnival the original had so much fun playing at, and takes his re-rub for a drive down the coast. What coast I’m not exactly sure.

Speaking of BURNS, the Breastfed and 21:12 patriarch sent the extended mix for his latest single last month. If you missed it, you can grab it from here. While you’re clicking about, you might as well head over to NME and grab ‘Turbo.’ I guess I missed the memo when that rag started talking dance. Weren’t they just a metal magazine? Kidding, of course.
OH!MEGA does some nice work with his remix of ‘Love My Shake.’ Although he doesn’t actually do much with the bootleg – the saturated bassline from FUKKK OFF‘s original has been replaced with some swooping wobble – the result is still quite desirable.

LE BUS comes to us from Toronto, Ontario and brings a whole lot of awesome to the dance floor. Hamburg’s ERIQ JOHNSON keeps himself busy with a number of projects including production and remix duties as well as running the MUSICHEADS label. His latest release is a bit clubby in nature, but its accessibility makes it that much easier to put on and move yer feet.

There’s a chance that I’m just not ‘getting it’ but this remix seems a bit like the electro equivalent to shoegaze – all droney and washed out. I guess when everyone and their dog remixes PHOENIX it’s nice that AFGHAN RAIDERS do something a bit different with the track.
