Bladerunner Post

Yo! I got a new job that has me writing a lot, so I’ve been dreading another assignment. Granted, Manalogue doesn’t force me to do these, I could say no, but it’s too much fun. Since I’m short on words, I’ll give you music and video instead;

p.swf?clip_id=5509560&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=33FF99&fullscreen=1″ />p.swf?clip_id=5509560&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=33FF99&fullscreen=1″ allowfullscreen=”true” allowscriptaccess=”always”>

I suggest muting the movie, and listening to this song:

K-CONJOG MYSPACE!!!

I discovered this video in relation to a candid facebook conversation about Bladerunner, that turned in to talk of Robot Intercourse. This video was linked by a friend of a friend. K-Conjog sent us an email claiming to be a one man boy band. I downloaded his tunes expecting him to be an a capella singer or something. I think he may be the opposite of a capella.

DECIBEL + FOAMO

Since FOAMO‘s remix competition for “Wardance” there have been more than a few interpretations floating about. Here’s one endorsed by the 22 star producer, unfortunately it missed the cut-off deadline. DECIBEL cut up the track molded some thunder out of the low end.

THE YOUNG PUNX

Like a digital equivalent to the introduction 7-inch, THE YOUNG PUNX have put together this two-track EP. Featuring tracks from their forthcoming second album, ‘Mashpop & Punkstep’, this is the first new material to be released to the public. The Simple Pleasures/Like Dat EP introduces new directions, showcases new collaborators, and demonstrates how The Young Punx continue to evolve.

I’ll be honest I’m not feeling it, but that’s no reason not to click below. The colab with Bass D is thick but I can’t get past the guitar. “Simple Pleasures” points to the diverse influence of reggae it’s truly punk rock meets drum n bass. If you thought that wasn’t possible, The Young Punx just proved you wrong.

AUDION

Audion
MATTHEW DEAR, alias AUDION, has a nice portfolio under his belt including a FabricLive release, a Body Language release, 5 or 6 albums (I’ve lost track), GHOSTLY INTERNATIONAL and a light show that reminds me of an installation by CLAUDE TOUSIGNANT.

Check out this footage from AUDION‘s Hecatomb Tour:

Pirahna Pirahna , Modern Math , THERINSEOUT

I was away in Montreal when it all happened, but Dubstep got big in Calgary. I showed up and quickly invited to a new night, featuring DJs I have never heard of, at a bar I didn’t know existed. None of this was all that surprising, Calgary turned in to a different city in the past 5 years, and the change has been well worth the return. Now I am devoted student of Modern Math.

Enter THERINSEOUT.COM and their weekly dubstep night, MODERN MATH. In addition to sick alliteration, the Rinse Out boys have a night filled with bass, booze and dancing. The recurring DJs Dan Solo and Mr. Geography have come together to produce some homegrown dubstep they can really be proud of. Calling themselves PIRANHA PIRANHA, Dan Solo and Mr. Geography have produced something that has gotten them the attention of heavyweight RUSKO, opening for his set at the HIFI on November 21st.

Check the sick wobble here:

If that doesn’t convince you, you’ll just have to go down to the Lord Nelson bar and swim with us in the deep end of bass, while Dan Solo, Mr. Geography and many special guests make waves.

MIKEYSHHH

So, the previous post I went on about the fertility in this city; cold breeds creativity and so on. Here’s another gestational Winnipegger.

MIKEYSHHH (aka Mike B) runs a weekly that could stand as one of the best in the country. (Now if only I could ever get to it…that’s a different story). GOODFORM has been going strong for years, even after an extended hiatus when the crew had to find a new venue.

Mike’s latest effort floats lightly through the air like leaves falling in the autumn sun. Sure it helps that the original is by PHOENIX, but this cut will warm any Winnipegger in the dead of winter.
