Bladerunner Post

Written by Bonnaventure. Filed under misc. Tagged , , , . 2 Comments.

Yo! I got a new job that has me writing a lot, so I’ve been dreading another assignment. Granted, Manalogue doesn’t force me to do these, I could say no, but it’s too much fun. Since I’m short on words, I’ll give you music and video instead;

I suggest muting the movie, and listening to this song:

K-conjog – Attenti al cane
K-CONJOG MYSPACE!!!

I discovered this video in relation to a candid facebook conversation about Bladerunner, that turned in to talk of Robot Intercourse. This video was linked by a friend of a friend. K-Conjog sent us an email claiming to be a one man boy band. I downloaded his tunes expecting him to be an a capella singer or something. I think he may be the opposite of a capella.

DECIBEL + FOAMO

Since FOAMO‘s remix competition for “Wardance” there have been more than a few interpretations floating about. Here’s one endorsed by the 22 star producer, unfortunately it missed the cut-off deadline. DECIBEL cut up the track molded some thunder out of the low end.

THE YOUNG PUNX

Written by manalogue. Filed under drum n bass, misc. Tagged , . No comments.

Like a digital equivalent to the introduction 7-inch, THE YOUNG PUNX have put together this two-track EP. Featuring tracks from their forthcoming second album, ‘Mashpop & Punkstep’, this is the first new material to be released to the public. The Simple Pleasures/Like Dat EP introduces new directions, showcases new collaborators, and demonstrates how The Young Punx continue to evolve.

I’ll be honest I’m not feeling it, but that’s no reason not to click below. The colab with Bass D is thick but I can’t get past the guitar. “Simple Pleasures” points to the diverse influence of reggae it’s truly punk rock meets drum n bass. If you thought that wasn’t possible, The Young Punx just proved you wrong.

Pirahna Pirahna , Modern Math , THERINSEOUT

Written by Bonnaventure. Filed under bass, cancon, dubstep, wobble. Tagged , , , . 3 Comments.

I was away in Montreal when it all happened, but Dubstep got big in Calgary. I showed up and quickly invited to a new night, featuring DJs I have never heard of, at a bar I didn’t know existed. None of this was all that surprising, Calgary turned in to a different city in the past 5 years, and the change has been well worth the return. Now I am devoted student of Modern Math.

Enter THERINSEOUT.COM and their weekly dubstep night, MODERN MATH. In addition to sick alliteration, the Rinse Out boys have a night filled with bass, booze and dancing. The recurring DJs Dan Solo and Mr. Geography have come together to produce some homegrown dubstep they can really be proud of. Calling themselves PIRANHA PIRANHA, Dan Solo and Mr. Geography have produced something that has gotten them the attention of heavyweight RUSKO, opening for his set at the HIFI on November 21st.

Check the sick wobble here:

If that doesn’t convince you, you’ll just have to go down to the Lord Nelson bar and swim with us in the deep end of bass, while Dan Solo, Mr. Geography and many special guests make waves.

MIKEYSHHH

Written by manalogue. Filed under cancon, house, indie, remix, stuff my wife would like. Tagged , , , . 2 Comments.

So, the previous post I went on about the fertility in this city; cold breeds creativity and so on. Here’s another gestational Winnipegger.

MIKEYSHHH (aka Mike B) runs a weekly that could stand as one of the best in the country. (Now if only I could ever get to it…that’s a different story). GOODFORM has been going strong for years, even after an extended hiatus when the crew had to find a new venue.

Mike’s latest effort floats lightly through the air like leaves falling in the autumn sun. Sure it helps that the original is by PHOENIX, but this cut will warm any Winnipegger in the dead of winter.

DWIGHT WHITE

Written by manalogue. Filed under bass, cancon, electro, house, local shows, remix. Tagged , , , . No comments.

There’s a tonne of talent here in Winnipeg.

If you haven’t heard, it gets really cold here in the winter. Honestly, -40°C (and colder) goes way past frigid and straight to pain. It’s believed, however that the weather forces the city’s citizens into hibernation which in turn breeds creativity. For the most part I agree with this theory except this fall – while it was warm enough to walk outside with exposed skin that didn’t freeze in three seconds – stoked some dancefloor fire to keep us all sweaty until March.

Among those producers is DWIGHT WHITE who’s remix EP will drop in the next few months. The dood’s kept himself out of hibernation while working on the release too. He’s been heating things up with two of this city’s busiest jocks (HUNNICUTT and CO-OP) and throwing as many parties as he does high-fives. Here then, are two cuts requiring you to shed a layer or two.

NROTB x Drop The Lime

Written by Bonnaventure. Filed under cancon, club, electro, rave. Tagged , , , . No comments.

While it may not seem fair to some, but having that talent to drop two fun remixes of the same tune. People will be jealous of course, people will bitch and moan, people will call you out, but we all know the facts. NROTB bring it with everything they got, well dressed, well mixed, well done.

DROP THE LIME is another bringer who brings it like bringing it is going out of style. I’d suggest gauging which tune to drop in your DJ set depending on the crowd’s Neon Bracelet to Black Eyeliner ratio. If it’s 1:1, play both back to back for 11 plus minutes of killer rave fun.

FISCHERSPOONER + DIM MAK

DIM MAK is proud to present the release of Fischerspooner’s new single “Supply and Demand”, out on November 10 and FISCHERSPOONER will be doing a DJ set at DIM MAK TUESDAYS on the evening of the release.

When my wife and I met, we bonded over Fischerspooner. I’m not sure if it sealed the deal for her, but the fact that she was such a huge fan of Casey and Warren gave me a bit of a chub. Think about it – this night could be the making of eternal love. If you’re in Hollywood, head over to Cinespace and check it out.
