HOLY GHOST!

Last year I named the free single from HOLY GHOST! the tune of the summer. “I Will Come Back” repeated hundreds of times in various Manalogue playlists when the sun was closest to this part of the planet. We just got a preview of the New York duo’s debut EP coming out on DFA RECORDS and I’m happy to report the release is amazing!

The spaced-out indie jam represents everything that is robotdisco. It’s full of tight guitar licks and loose bass slaps – all combined with some of the most intricate drumming I’ve heard on a dance record for a while. The only track we can share is “Say My Name” which by all accounts on this site, is a bit of a slow number but is still perfect for rocking closely back and forth with your favourite person. It’s good day or night. Yes, truly, it’s like that.

Oh, and if you check out the Holy Ghost website you can sign up to get their remix of LCD Soundsystem’s “Drunk Girls”.  Also for the first time ever you’ll be able to see them live, performing as a full live band (guitars, drum kit, keys, the works!) this Spring and Summer, including US dates opening for DFA Records’s founder and Hot Chip.

Bonnaventure James Summer Adventure Mix

Bonnaventure has gotten his “shit” together and actually produced some music in hopes he could share it with the world. In the past I have decided not to share my music with Manalogue, considering it “shameless self promotion” and being self-conscious about putting product out to such a large market. I can hide no more, and must scream my intentions from the blogtops!

Bonnaventure (the writer) is BONNAVENTURE JAMES (the musician). I will be playing a few dates going in to June, and hopefully more in to July and August. The first place you can catch me is on the upstairs stage at the epic MAMMOTH CAVE music fest in Lethbridge, Ab. My set is at 3:20 sharp, and will be a small part of history as the venue HENOTIC will close indefinitely. After that, I will be playing with CdT and DIGITS at BROKEN CITY on May 13! Even further down the road are some summer festival dates of my own, but I’d like to save that for another post as nothing is 100% official yet.

In the mean time, I hope you can escape your weekday shackles and break free. Take to the road and enjoy some life and music. While you’re out there, enjoy this mix I made for just this intended purpose.

Bonnaventure James – Get Lost in Music (a disco, IDM, chillwave, house mix)

This mix is mostly vinyl that I have been collecting for the past little while and contains alternate versions of some classic tunes (The idea of a 12” club mix floors me every time) and some fun newer stuff. I really hope you enjoy this and aren’t immediately annoyed by the extended version of Blondie’s Rapture. Check out the track listing after the jump!

DRAKE + DWIGHT WHITE + HYPER CRUSH

I have to admit, I don’t think I’ve heard the original DRAKE tune, but it doesn’t matter when there are bootlegs like these sent our way.

First, here’s a bootie remix from a local dj / promoter who has exploded in Winnipeg. RIC HARD has his finger in every party pie. The thing that makes this remix stand out is the piano that compliments the solitaire melancholic message in the track. It’s all juxtaposed with maximal punching bag of drums and synth targeting this is one both for the dancefloor and the bedroom.

LA’s HYPER CRUSH take a slightly different approach. They take the sadness and smash it in the teeth with their dancefloor laser beams, transforming the tune into a sleazy electro banger. To top it off, they add their own rhymes.

Tex Taiwan

Tex Taiwan
The kids want Electro-Punk! And that’s what they’ll get from new Belgian group TEX TAIWAN. In the footsteps of acts such as KAP BAMBINO & CRYSTAL CASTLES comes another sonic assault of scream-fuckery & synthtopia. An epic remix from YOU LOVE HER COZ SHE’S DEAD shows that thoughtful use of pitch correcting software can sometimes give a track that little extra sparkle. <3
The Album hits the shelves on June 21st care of GLASSTONE RECORDS.

Cheese People

Cheese People

Sometimes I view Russia as one of music’s yet to be tapped resources…The only artists that come to mind for me are PROXY & t.A.T.u. CHEESE PEOPLE are a refreshing group of youth from the city of Samara. Their sound is a very eclectic smear between psych-rock, big beat (ala FATBOY SLIM) & Disco Punk. Kinda like THE GO! TEAM took acid with THE PRODIGY. The self titled album is now available on iTunes HERE.

TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB + THE TWELVES

After a year of microphones, room tones, standing waves, & sidechain compressors, I’ve finally finished school at The Recording Arts College of Canada! If anyone needs help recording their band, just drop us a line here. My ultimate goal is to become a mastering engineer but any experience is good experience.

The Twelves + Two Door Cinema Club
Leave it to KITSUNÉ to release yet another Kitsuné Maison compilation (slated for release on April 26 2010) before I’ve finished listening to vol. 8! Ah well, who am I to complain about good music? This post is dedicated to my girlfriend as she was the one who turned me on to TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB as well as THE TWELVES.

If you’re in the Montréal area on May 01 2010, come to Le Belmont to catch THE TWELVES. You’ll have to wait until May 16th 2010 to see TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB at La Sala Rossa in Montréal.
