TONEPUSHERS (JOE SILVA + ALI KHAN) – PRAXIC

I still feel really green to the Winnipeg EDM scene sometimes. Such as last week when I learned that two of my favorite DJ and EDM producers - JOE SILVA and Ali Khan – are a duo, and had just released ”Praxic” as the TONEPUSHERS on THOUGHTLESS MUSIC!!

I immediately sampled some of the tracks on beatport and added them to my shopping cart. You should too if you like quality techno.

One of my favorite things about the techno genre, is that it sounds good fast or slow. Take for example the track “Apraxic.” It clocks in around 122 bpm. I love techno tracks at the slower speeds. Finding really good ones is hard. Sure, you can pitch down tracks from the higher tempos of 125-128, but that probably wasn’t the original intention of the artist when they created their tunes.

I don’t know about you, but with all the dubstomp and body checking going on in clubs in Calgary, I really appreciate when something is sexy and Italo like this tune from Polosid.

From the Promo;

TILT is kinda game.
In an ordinary afternoon, some friends playing with old musical machines while Mirella is singing a funny song with delirious lyrics… Ooh woah!
This has to become a POLOSID track! All sounds and vocals were recorded from scratch in a couple of hours and in a truly randomized mood…and after some mixing sessions we finally did it!
TILT can also be considered a tribute track: the original song was the theme of a famous music
show in 1979. It was sung by Stefania Rotolo, one of the most talented italian showgirls, that passed
away while she was on the top of her exploding success.
Following the classic POLOSID’s formula, this tune represents the contemporary italo-disco vision.
TILT is produced using the most innovative solutions, but keeping the whole thing familiar
funny and alive…yeah! still alive!

SHAB RUFFCUT

SHAB RUFFCUT has to be one of the most diverse producers I’ve heard. He’s responsible for releases ranging from deep tech to wobbly monsters. He’s shared some of his older releases with us and will be sharing more in the weeks to come so keep watching these pages.

Holy eff, I had no idea these doods were Canadian. Turns out AZARI & III are from Toronto.

This tune’s been around for a minute already but its video is getting some huge hype!

Brand new from CHRIS DE LUCA is a bouncing monster with hints of glitch and techno courtesy of BE BONKERZ. I’m all about the synth stabs which makes choosing the standout cut a bit more difficult. You see, those stabs are in every mix. If you made me choose one, I think PLASTIC LITTLE takes it with their (more) housey interpretation.

THE BOOMZERS

Italian electro heavyweights, THE BOOMZERS, bring the fire with their latest single, “Rowentah.” The entire package, out on BOXON RECORDS is all chainsaws and squelch with remix support from Electrixx, Bezlebass, Saint Pauli, Deadbots, Blaster & The Killer Rabbits, and Bullwack. The standout track though is the edit from FAR TOO LOUD who grind some rather enticing low end frequencies to cap what’s already a smashing tune.

Electrixx subdue the squelch somewhat. This one’s highly effective.

ALOO – KLANGBILD

A new release on ASTOR BELL records from German artist ALOO.

Aloo is from the town of Erfurt in East Germany and started out as a DnB DJ. This release features an eclectic mix of sounds that straddles the genres the dub and ambient  - with enough fat bass to keep you interested.
