Some choice cuts courtesy of GROUND LEVEL BREAKS as the first installment in the Disruptive Beats series. DJ HERO gets the first stab which seems like a grand ploy to get everyone interested the upcoming releases – all three cuts are ace and well, they have me hooked.

Disruptive Beats is a brand new series of EPs showcasing a new wave of talent in the breaks scene, artists who are reinventing the sounds and the very scene itself. Each EP features an artist with a new original track, a remix, plus their interpretation of a back catalogue classic from the Ground Level vaults.

In Disruptive Beats Part 1, we get DJ Hero’s original track Game Face a 808 heavy Miami style breaks track. The remixer for this package is the Basement Freaks, dropping down the BPM and making a Ghetto Funk cut out of the track. DJ Hero turns his hand to Break the Box’s Groovy Moves, the third ever release on Ground Level, combing breaks and Dutch Bass to full effect.

The label has also given out three stellar re-rubs from DJ Hero. The Pance Party cut is the standout here. Boogies Bros version of the seminal Beastie Boys track is a bit cheesy but will win crowds over anywhere, while the Toecutter remix is nice and funky.
