FEATURECAST has been in seriously high rotation at Manalogue HQ so I was pretty stoked to see this come our way this morning. Taken from Featurecast’s latest DJ mix “It’s Showtime” Bright Lights Funk cleverly mashes up DJ Die’s pounding D&B track “Bright Lights”, Hampton Hawes’ classic 70′s funk jam “The Web” and some classic 90′s hip hop in the form of Notorious B.I.G.’s the F.U.N.K.
What is this? Chillwave? Nu Disco? Something in between? Perhaps. AIMES‘ (aka Aman Ellis) debut album runs the gamut. Using traditional analogue synths he explores genre boundaries while embracing a sun-kissed sky. Grab the b-side of the single from the SoundCloud player below. The single’s available on beatport.
The classic EDM genre of PROGRESSIVE HOUSE has undergone some changes over the years. Tracks tagged as progressive now have strong elements of electro, some – like this recent track from 21 year old Russian new comer DJ & producer Arty (born Artem Stolyarov) – do a great job of incorporating the elements exciting, high energy aspects electro house. Without being too overpowering, or falling into the cliche patterns of crowded electro genre.
For their 4th release on GRAND HOTEL RECORDSAndy and Lee relinquish beats and bass. This isn’t unusual for the lads more commonly known as PLUMP DJs so let’s skip the niceties and get straight to it. Their brand of breaks are both funky and energetic so for everyone’s sake, make sure the AC is working cuz this one’s gonna make you sweat.
The boys also have a bit of a present for you too, although you do have to work for it. It’s their first freebie in almost a year and as soon as it hits 5,126 plays they’ll unlock it for free download.
