CHUBBY DUBZ (OLIVER $ + GENE SIEWING)

Kicking off 2012 with a bang, LOUNGIN’ RECORDINGS welcomes CHUBBY DUBZ (aka Oliver $ and Gene Siewing) to the family. Chubby Dubz background and origins combine all manors of influences, as Oliver is native to Germany and Gene to the US. With this chemistry comes a fusion of minds that produces great house music with enough musical soul to have real longevity and keep the dance floors moving. The pair’s first release, The Album Sampler #1, as the name suggests is the first release of 4 from the self titled Chubby Dubz album due out on loungin’ later this year. All the 12”s will feature full length versions of the album tracks crafted especially for the dancefloor plus remixes by key players from the loungin’ fold plus some very special guests.

Here’s a release that made me turn off the lights and turn the volume up. It’s quite simply, house music at its best with subtle basslines and smooth melodies. This entire record is beautiful – deep and lush yet not over produced.

First we have a free download…followed by the rest of the EP.

BREAK SCIENCE

Another release on PRETTY LIGHTS MUSIC, this time by Brooklyn duo BREAK SCIENCE.

To be expected, this is a bass-heavy glitchy cut, full of breaks, contrasted with some ethereal melodies. “Victory” is the first single from the upcoming EP, Monolith Code. In the words of the seasoned producers, it’s “the innate message we have to decipher to get to the next step in our evolution. The monolith represents a transition into a higher level of consciousness. A spark that initiates us to consider wider possibilities and ideas. The code is the system to express this transformation. Containing information from the past, present and future, it holds the key to unlock our potential as spiritual beings.”

PRETTY LIGHTS

As summer drew to a close I went “camping” with my wife and her family. By camping I mean we stayed in a gigantic RV on some land they’re developing near a lake in Southern Manitoba. No we weren’t roughing it. In fact, my brother-in-law brought a pretty swank and deluxe sounding iPod/iPhone stereo thingy. While the others went to sleep, he and I listened to PRETTY LIGHTS in front of a fire. Editor’s note: This portable piece of stereo equipment was one of the most rich-sounding units I’ve ever heard. It was the perfect setting (excluding one of the many festivals Pretty Lights plays) and if I weren’t the family man I am, I’d say the only thing that could have made it better would be some Mary Jane. Okay, I confess, if there was some Mary Jane around I totally would have partook.

The new single from Pretty Lights would have been very welcome in this setting too. It’s full of soul, super chill, and rich, like many of life’s subtle moments.

Derek Vincent Smith (aka Pretty Lights) and his creative director, Krystle Blackburn, made this video for the tune too. Is there anything this guy can’t do?

THE LOOSE CANNONS + BIRDEE + FELIX LEITER

Late last year CHAMPION RECORDS released a deluxe EP from THE LOOSE CANNONS.

“Charlie Bit Me” is a bouncy tech-house number, albeit a bit cheeky thanks to some help from a somewhat well known internet phenomenon from 2011.

The tune gets a driving disco-influenced makeover from Southern Fried stalwart and man-of-the-moment BIRDEE.

The other cut on the EP takes another internet meme and thankfully it’s use is kept to a tasteful minimum. “Tiger Blood” bubbles with a deep kick taking the tune to the underground.

There’s an extremely tasty remix on this one from FELIX LEITER too.

Grab the EP from beatport.

FUNK MOGULS + AVICII

I played this warehouse party last halloween and some hoochies, very very good looking hoochies mind you, kept requesting Avicii. I had one track of his and to be honest, despite the million promos we received I didn’t really know who he was. I played the tune it went off so I looked back through the promos and educated myself a bit. In my mind he didn’t have game.

This bootleg from the FUNK MOGULS, is a bit different. It has game and I can’t wait to drop it the next time I get a request for Levels. Grab the free download below courtesy of Bombastic Jam in celebration to their newest members.

If you’re in doubt about the Funk Moguls, peep these.

YUKSEK

YUKSEK has won my heart and ears many times. Released on ULTRA MUSIC, his latest long player is no different.  At times, Living on the Edge of Dreams is an etheral dream and at others a wash of melodic distortion and stomping kicks.

We have a video, a couple previews from the album and pre-released singles. Oh there’s also a free download to boot.
