Depending on when you were born, MITCH MURDER‘s new EP GLASS CITIES will either evoke a warm flood of 80′s nostalgic memories or a cool wave of retro hip atmosphere. Whichever category you fall into (I fall into the former), you will no doubt be immersed in a world of synthwave where Don Johnson, LA Gear and Rubik’s Cubes reign supreme. It’s a nice break from the “wobble” and “wub” that is au courant as of late.
This third release from DhARMA RECORDS, is not filled with your typical “bangers”. You certainly would not expect to hear this in a set from Skrilavicaoki (and rightly so, with no disrespect to Skrilavicaoki). For the most part, these tracks would be more at home as drivers or as part of a lounge set. They might even enjoy an art gallery opening. But make no mistake… each one of these tracks are, simply put, quite special.
The standouts for me are the lush title track and the energetic Heading South. But for anyone who has even a remote interest in the sound of synth, this should be a full EP listen for you. You can catch this release (or pre-order it) on September 1st, 2012 HERE. And when you do, say hi to Anthony Michael Hall for me…
