Holzkopf, Bonnaventure James + More and a MIX!

Don’t let the sock puppet fool you, this show is going to be outlandishly good!
Bonnaventure Took the Acid by booksxtape

Holzkopf originally blew my brain after seeing him play at Henotic (RIP) in Lethbridge, Ab. He was louder than all the boys in Zebra Pulse put together, and was pretty legit about telling me about his craft. After that, we crossed paths again at Typist’s house in Lethbridge, and played a house show together. I remember it clearly because the Dutch lost to the Spanish the following Sunday and I was fairly upset on the drive back to Calgary.

Anyway, Holzkopf drops some serious breakcore. Too loud for ravers, too electro for punks, but still enjoyed by drug addicts and christians alike.

I will be joining Holzkopf on stage at Broken City with Crimson, Lynwirk, Older Godz and Lodestar Supernumerary. For once, I may just be the most accessible artist on the bill. That’s cool with me.

7-10 dollars for cover I’m sure.

More tunes and the track list for that mix after the jump!

BASS CANNON

If you’re in Calgary, then you’ve definitely heard about the pK Sound Crew. For the rest of you, pK is responsible for anything that involves BASS within the bulk of western Canada. Their soundsystems have been the backbone of multiple festivals (including Shambhalla) and their custom made speakers have been installed in multiple clubs.

To show their appreciation for all that is BASS, they are throwing a party of epic proportions alongside Rottun and Contagious.

I present to you…..BASS CANNON!

KNIIFEPRRTY – NEW SINGLE

KNIIFEPRRTY
was one of the first bands I blogged about for manalogue, so I was excited when they sent along their new single “STAY WILD” which they are selling via their Bandcamp page and can be previewed on soundcloud here:

Maybe drop a little coin for this if you dig it. Speaking of digging and being dug, my buddy and fellow Albertan KUMON PLAZA was recently featured on FORKCAST! Yeah boy! It feels like I know Drake or something… Go download the tune Final Boss, and check out this edit I did for an art opening mix CD of his tune Hans Kruger… Nothing too fancy, just shaving off 3 minutes to make it a little more of a pop-tune…

For all y’all wanting something with more kick to it, mr. BASSNECTAR sent over a MASSIVE ATTACK bootleg to enjoy the solstice by. I believe Bassnectar played this tune (or a version of it) when I saw him at Shambhala a few years back, but can’t say for sure due to my state of mind at the time…

New Crystal Castles “Doe Deer” Coming April 17

Until then, we have this new official remix of CRYSTAL CASTLES‘ super hyped tune Crime Wave by our new friend MIDNIGHT CONSPIRACY. Mighty nice of them to send it over. Apparently the Toronto duo are gearing up for a big tour, and the release of their new single on record store day on VINYL ONLY and will be limited to 500 copies worldwide. I have a feeling there will be more than one at each store, which makes it unlikely it will make it all the way over to Alberta for me to get my dirty mitts on. Someone will rip it and it will be all over the blogs within hours, so don’t be too worried. I’ll leave you with the tunes because I am a hungover, over-sexed lord of the dance.

This IS A Best Of Post

But not a very researched one. Actually, that’s a lie. For the last two months when I wasn’t bombarded with homework, I was trying to download EVERY ALBUM I MISSED LAST YEAR. The results? Don’t ever try to do that…
MODERAT
I have one fav. album from last year. MODERATMODERAT (or would you write it MODERATS/T?) on BPitch CONTROL from Germany. It’s got just the right amount of thump blended seamlessly amongst the sappy. I suggest the CD version over the vinyl because the vinyl doesn’t include BEATS WAY SICK featuring BUSDRIVER (On a side note, this years album JHELLI BEAM by BUSDRIVER didn’t quite do it for me). MODERAT are a collaboration between APPARAT & MODESELEKTOR.

The I wish all at the staff at MANALOGUE the best of luck in the New Year and to all the people out there behind the screen…keep listening.

Honourable Mentions:
Applescal – A Slave’s Commitment [Traum Schallplatten]
The Field – Yesterday & Today [Kompakt]
Kap Bambino – Blacklist [Because Music]
Nathan Fake – Hard Islands [Border Community]
Telefon Tel Aviv – Immolate Yourself [BPitch Control]
Zombie Nation – Zombielicious [UKW]

PANTYRAID

PANTYRAID
I finished all my final exams for school (RECORDING ARTS COLLEGE OF CANADA) this week; time to get my party-on!

Nothing says “party-on” quite like a good ol’ outdoor music festival and we’ve had plenty of them so far. I was lucky enough to catch the GLITCH MOB earlier this year and if you’re into the glitch hop sounds, check out the new album from PANTYRAID called THE SAUCE. It’s got heavy beat, shishy pads, and nice SCRUBSTEP basslines ;)

PS – PANTYRAID are MARTYPARTY and OOAH (of GLITCH MOB fame).
