CARLOS CID is a name you may not be familiar with yet but he’s definitely one to keep an eye on if you’re into that big room/progressive whathaveyou. It turns out he’s the audio engineer, collaborator, and close friend of Cedric Gervais too.

How legendary is the Legendary Long Weekend series?
Well, Vancouver promotion crew Intimate Productions have been throwing the first rate bashes for 8 years. And while they usually try to showcase local Vancouver DJs and artists, they’re occasionally tempted with truly international acts they can’t refuse. Some of the highlights from past LLW parties include Fred Falke, Lifelike, Lawn Chair Generals, Terry Francis and Llorca.
This Thursday, Nov.10th the party is LAST CALL FOR 2011 and is hosted at the spectacular Waldorf Hotel which is easily the best venue I’ve been too since moving here in July. It allows for 4 separate rooms with different vibes in each. Here’s rundown of what each room with be offering this Thurday:

All-around nice guy and the dood with a finger in nearly every dancfloor pie Winnipeg has to offer, RIC HARD sent this club tune over. The remix is the first from a colab with another local high flier, Tec G. All in all, this is a big room remix meant for $10,000 lasers and $300 jeans. The classic EDM genre of PROGRESSIVE HOUSE has undergone some changes over the years. Tracks tagged as progressive now have strong elements of electro, some – like this recent track from 21 year old Russian new comer DJ & producer Arty (born Artem Stolyarov) – do a great job of incorporating the elements exciting, high energy aspects electro house. Without being too overpowering, or falling into the cliche patterns of crowded electro genre.

The Manitoba Electronic Music Exhibition (MEME) starts tomorrow!
This is the second annual event for the one-of-a-kind festival in Manitoba. Like last year, you’ll find a tonne of talent, both local and from abroad. International headliners include THOMAS FEHLMANN (Berlin, The Orb) and DANDY JACK (Geneva) with HITORI TORI (Vancouver) and Winnipeg’s own VENETIAN SNARES and LEBEATO.
Inspired by Montreal’s legendary Mutek festival, MEME’s outdoor performances at Old Market Square are the focus for this year. Every show in this space is free and features all the talent you want to see anyway. Plus, they’ve added a beer garden with local sponsor Half Pints providing my favourite malt beverages (honestly – their beer is soooo tasty!).
The shows at the Zoo, Whiskey Dix and Alive will also highlight more than the usual club fair these venues are known for. As half of THE SHAKE, I’ll be representing the locals on the opening night. LOTEK and I are playing a tag-team set as usual, except we’re patching together two midi controllers for a 6-deck set. We’re in some great company too, playing along side Dan Gilson, Encode, Dubz, Dave Rad, Freaky Alien, Jamal Knight, Just For Kicks, Frankie Wild, and fellow contributor to Manalogue, Owen Reynolds.
This year’s festival embraced the visual aspect of performance with vjs and artists providing additional enjoyments. It’s all led by MRGHOSTY with help from a bunch of others.
Not enough? Well there’s also two half-day workshops on June 24 and 25 on how to make electronic music, with presentations from performing DJs.
