MOBY + THE DUSTY KID

Wednesday, April 23, 2008
http://winnipegpaparazzi.blogspot.com/

I don’t like posting pieces about the same artists so close together but the remix below directly links two posts from this month. I’m excusing myself of the rule because of the serendipitous first degree of separation.

After dropping DUSTY KID’s remix of DISCO LIES repeatedly the last two days I’ve concluded that the track needs to be heard by everyone. Dusty Kid spins this tune into another galaxy. It’s a nine minute trip that takes you deeeeeeeeeep into dim bass and techno caverns with washes of warm yet eerie blankets of robotdisco strings. The voyage is routed on precise mechanical beeping that alters communication within your body. I mentioned this a few posts ago.

MP3: Moby - Disco Lies (The Dusty Kid’s Fears remix)

The other artists deserve the double recognition too. I also listen to the SPENCER AND HILL remix found on MOBY’s single four times a day which is unusual because I don’t normally like vocals like the ones in this mixup. Heavy and modern disco.

MSTRKRFT + Jesse McCartney

Friday, April 18, 2008

JESSE MCCARTNEY, the alleged Prince of Pop, has sold 2 million records which makes me wonder if the music industry is really in the endangered position it claims to hold. A preview of some of the material from Departure confirms that I’m thankful for remixers like MSTRKRFT who transform a piece like Leavin’ into something uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh, easier to swallow.

MP3: Jesse McCartney - Leavin’ (MSTRKRFT remix)

A couple years ago, the first MSTRKRFT track I heard was “Paris” - an epic banger that quenched a long thirst for growling beats. It’s funny though, now I prefer the mashup below more than the original. If you’re unfamiliar, you can change that now. Included with the bundle is a remix that MSTRKRFT cut for Toronto’s indie darlings, Metric.

ROBOTGLAM

Monday, April 14, 2008

Three more tracks on high rotation here at Manalogue, all of them loosely fitting into what I call ROBOTGLAM. They all shimmer like hair metal did 20 years ago, except guitars have been replaced by drum machines and synthesizers. Play them for yer Gran and watch her get down.

First up is another production by GRUM. Built largely on a house music platform this tune bursts with neon flashes and sparkly synth highlights.

MP3: GRUM - Heartbeats (Edwin Van Cleef remix)

(**This will be getting a full release soon so the link had to be removed.)

The next track rolls out somewhat of a disco vocal on top of the Hail Social’s cyborg chorus of brightly distorted and flanged keyboards.

MP3: Hail Social - Heaven (Designer Drugs remix)

This remix of Damn Arms brings in a full spectral sonic assult and sounds like it should be accompanied with a laser lightshow at all times. Deadly.

LOTEK FINDS ANOTHER…

Sunday, April 13, 2008

If you haven’t already acquainted yourself, check out Jason Funk Permanand (AKA Lotek) and his posts on MASHUPTOWN. Jason’s last post is a brave example of reconstructionalism, an art form that will probably be documented and studied as part of the postmodern movement, or whatever that means. Okay, maybe Nirvana’s Come As You Are vs. The Superman Lovers’ Starlight won’t change the world, but it might blow your mind.

Check it here.

And Overdub here.

Although entirely different in scope and purpose I thought I could direct your attention to an outstanding reconstruction of Smells Like Teen Spirit. Patrick Alavi cuts up the grunge classic into a gritty electro stomper.

HEY YOU

Sunday, April 13, 2008

I’d love to hear this coming from a tower of speakers. Solid bass workout and more acid tweakery squelch.

MP3: KILL THE NOISE - Hey You (Le Castle Vania remix)

Remember this synth rocker?

MP3: Snowden - Black Eyes (Le Castle Vania remix)

Don’t forget every body’s movin to this on the dance floor.

MP3: Party Shank - Penis vs Vagina (Lies In Disguise remix)

HOP TO IT!

ROMANOFF do up some squelchy acid-like tweakery in their latest hot steppa! The robot glam shining with synth kills it too. Epic man.

MP3: ROMANOFF - ZOMBIE BITE

Check out their “two minute hot steppa” from last month (at the old blog).

Do I use “hot steppas” too much?

I’m supposed to making money…

Monday, April 7, 2008

Well, aren’t we all. Really though I need to find additional income especially with some expenses coming this way. This post, despite my wife’s preference takes precedence however. (She’s so sick of everything I play, she probably doesn’t read my blog anymore anyway. PS I love you LV!)

While I’m working on a few things to advance some financial stability some tunes are playing. I’m sitting down typing and thinking and typing and thinking then the LA Riots vs. Villains remix of Hot Chip’s Ready for the Floor starts to pound. I turn the volume up, then up again, totally drowning the next door neighbour’s construction noise. The tune with it’s booming bass sonics and synth stabs pull me to my feet and I’m rocking it all by myself in my living room. No lie, fists clenched and repeatedly raise up and down like a dancefloor piston.

THUNDER!

Sunday, March 9, 2008

He wept. Returning from an epic journey of great danger. Michaelangelo slayed the dragon with his laser love. Trees shook. Earth quaked.

The Requesters - Warriors of Steel (Instrumental) | [direct download]

Once you get past the neying, you’ll understand. At first the rain and the horses turned me off of the track entirely but the thunder of this track isn’t at the beginning. This track is epic - do not pass this one up.
