HOTLINE ZERO is a new secret project from two big names in the scene. Their first EP was released on the gloriously humourous, yet delightfully wumphous label, Hot Cakes. Knowing any history behind the London/Brighton label, it would be somewhat obvious but entirely speculative that Deekline was one of the mystery producers, but in all honesty, who the eff cares. At this point we all just want the quality beats, like say, the ones in this funkified peanut butter n jam sammy. Take a big bite of this free download, would ya?

The second EP is on it’s way, so we hear…in the meantime get your shuffle on with some of these.

The ALL GOOD FUNK ALLIANCE and COPYCAT step back in time with their latest collab. Taking us back to the funky origins of hip-hop with staccato’d breaks, chopped vocals and some minimal use of horns – this is a jam to get down to. The tribute to Main Source, AGFA and Copycat looked up the samples, then tracked down the records, cds and files and recreated “Fakin’ the Funk” from the ground up. In every sense, this track is more funk than ghetto, but it’ll get your feet moving all the same. Grab the exclusive download below.

One of the reasons I like ghetto funk is it’s ability to cross genres and enter territory not easily explored. It’s hella fun to play too. WARP9 has successfully captured that spirit since he was knee high to a bass bin. On his latest effort, he wobbles down an alley in the deep American south, tripping over bluesy harmonica samples and scraping out a little glitch as he falls to the pavement. “Seems Like a Dream” arrives via a new label, Funk Fusion, on their debut compilation available on Juno.
I first heard Warp9 over at our friends ghettofunk.co.uk. One of the staples of the blog, SPINFORTH‘s Scour just reached a milestone and to celebrate the 100th post, Warp9 was asked to put together something special. Preview below, then head to the scour page to grab a few handfulls of mid-tempo love.

Here’s something a bit different from Vancouver’s TIMOTHY WISDOM. He goes slow and sexy, showing off his vocal swagger. Let’s get romantic and hug each other, after all, it is St. Valentine’s Day.

Frank Cueto and Rusty Belicek, the duo better known as the ALL GOOD FUNK ALLIANCE are getting ready to release a new EP on Fort Knox Recordings. The EP is still in production and doesn’t have a release date yet but that hasn’t stopped the pair from tweaking some edits for their own dj sets. Their latest, an edit of The Treacherous Three’s 1981 classic “Put the Boogie in Your Body” magically merges hip-hop from a bygone era and the funktastic modern twist AGFA is known for. Check it below and grab the free download, then school your mates.
If you haven’t checked this yet, the AGFA remix of Neighbour & Think Tank’s track “Peak” is kind of a must.

“PLUMP DJs are arguably the wickedest confection to have oozed out from that veritable sweet-trolley-of-breaks imprint, Finger Lickin’ Records, and exactly a decade ago their supersized Eddie Bo-sampling platter Funk Hits the Fan not only did what it said on the menu, it sprayed across the dining room so damn hard it’s going to take another ten years and some serious pressure-steaming to get that sticky funk out.
And on this special anniversary who better to serve up a fresh, new, completely unofficial-but-irresistible slice of 10th birthday cake than Finger Lickin’ co-founder (and the label’s second-naughtiest act, Soul of Man) Jem Panufnik, aka JEM STONE?!”
Alright then. Let’s ‘ave it!
