MANALOGUE’S ROBOT FUNK MIXTAPE

Here’s a bit of a rushed mix I did for THE SHAKE, a weekly radio show LOTEK and I do every Friday night on KICK FM. Lotek and I are both out of town this week, hence the mix. It starts off with a bunch of robotdisco jams and gets into some house-flavoured breaks and ends with nu disco and tech house.

CHECK YR PULSE

There’s a new weekly club night in Winnipeg. If you haven’t guessed, it’s called CHECK YR PULSE, and well, Manalogue is half responsible for it. I DJ as a duo called THE SHAKE with the super deluxe LOTEK. Our beginning was pretty usual, playing parties for friends and such but we became a little more serious when we started hosting and programming our radio show called THE SHAKE which still keeps its focus by highlighting new dance music of many sorts.

The weekly, will focus a bit more on the underground – that’s where our roots are and every week we’re bringing in guests DJs with a goal of bringing the underground dance community together. To launch the night we have 14 13 local DJs playing, including ourselves. It all goes down tomorrow so if you’re in town, head to PURE. The club recently remodeled and didn’t skimp on the sound. I can’t wait to play there, it’s going to be sick! Here’s the lineup:

MANALOGUE MIX

Uh, I finally recorded a mix. It’s been a year since I’ve done one successfully. I tried in December and January with while holding my son but they didn’t go so well.

Funny though, I really wanted to make a mix of summer indie tunes but nothing came together the way I wanted it to. In the end, I recording a wobbly electro something. It’s not perfect but it’s still pretty fun.

LAZRTAG

All the way from L.A. CONFETTI brings LAZRtag to Winnipeg. The producing / remixing / djing pair have been heating up dancefloors for a minute already and with their remix of “Crimewave” hitting the HYPE MACHINE‘s Zeitgeist list for 2008 the duo have created a demand for everything they do.
I was lucky enough to see their gear rider for the show. Vinh and Erik embrace the future of djing by doing more than just play records. They’re adding a live production element with the assistance of two M-Audio Trigger Finger midi controllers. The show will be insane. If you’re in Winnipeg, get in on this. Every Friday Lotek and I produce and host a weekly radio show on 92.9 KICK FM. The initial format for the show was all remixes-of-songs-you-probably-know and mashups but more often than not we play a lot of new electro. Lately, the wobble gets me moving so I play as much bass music as possible. It’s funny, I still think it sounds like UK garage / speed garage / UKG. Since a few of the tunes played tonight were sent to this blog, I figured I’d make a huge post of that material…time is super limited these days. KICKIN’ IT WITH JUPITER ONE

Every Friday LOTEK and I whittle our favourite tunes of the week down to a single hour’s worth of material for our show on 92.9 KICK FM. It’s not easy considering the volume of tunes spread across the interwebs these days. Aside from arsenal of dancefloor oriented mashups and remixes I try to play cuts that would fit into the KICK playlists on their own which is why I was happy to hear something familiar the other day on WINNIPEG’S NEW SOUND.

This one hasn’t reached the KICK 40 yet but maybe now that I’m bringing a little attention to the tune, the boss might find more merit in it. Probably not. You’re best bet then, is to listen to THE SHAKE (facebook group) every Friday night for a weekly dose of dancefloor heat. From 8-9 Lotek and I (Manalogue) provide an excellent warmup to the weekend where you can hear tunes like the ones below from LA RIOTS and DESIGNER DRUGS.

KICK 40 REMIXED

It’s been far too long since one of these posts appeared on these pages so please don’t be hatin’.

MGMT

Like the band’s presence on the KICK 40 this track has been about for a minute already. It even started THE SHAKE on the July 25th episode, but don’t let this stop you from giving it the blog love, especially because this track’s so HOT!

The original by MGMT is pretty good, actually it’s really good and I hope it climbs up a spot to number one. Justice added some of their filter magic turning the tune into a slow-moving floor burner. The vocal addition from the Broolyn production duo DDPESH adds some B.I.G. 90s gangsta flow.

THE GLAMOUR TICKET GIVEAWAY

THE GLAMOUR

Last winter local party enthusiasts THE NUTTY KLUB booked THE GLAMOUR to play at a metal bar called the Albert here in Winnipeg. I know there are better things to talk about other than the weather – uh, like fear mongering propaganda behind every single Republican election campaign, but Milwaukee’s best neon revitalists, THE GLAMOUR, were snowed in and couldn’t make it to the gig. Even without the headliners the event was a bit over the top.

Well, they’re playing at The Pyramid this Friday, July 25. Jason and I are giving away two pairs of tickets on our show THE SHAKE (facebook group). We roll every Friday night from 8-9 on 92.9 KICK FM, and play an aural potluck of electro, robotdisco, mashups, club whathaveyou. You can think of it as a warmup for the evening and maybe win a pair of tickets courtesy of MIKE B.

Otherwise, tickets are $10 at INTO THE MUSIC or MUSIC TRADER or $15 at the door.
