There’s a new weekly club night in Winnipeg. If you haven’t guessed, it’s called CHECK YR PULSE, and well, Manalogue is half responsible for it. I DJ as a duo called THE SHAKE with the super deluxe LOTEK. Our beginning was pretty usual, playing parties for friends and such but we became a little more serious when we started hosting and programming our radio show called THE SHAKE which still keeps its focus by highlighting new dance music of many sorts.

The weekly, will focus a bit more on the underground – that’s where our roots are and every week we’re bringing in guests DJs with a goal of bringing the underground dance community together. To launch the night we have 14 13 local DJs playing, including ourselves. It all goes down tomorrow so if you’re in town, head to PURE. The club recently remodeled and didn’t skimp on the sound. I can’t wait to play there, it’s going to be sick! Here’s the lineup:

TEVAR does a simple but clever A+B mashup. Ace material really. Normally I try not to play two of the same tracks in a set, never mind back to back. I thought these went well together though.

GIVE ME A KISS are some of my new fav’s. This track is so Justice and so good! Wicked build up and perfect for an opening set.

When I lived in Brighton, I was lucky enough to see STANTON WARRIORS nearly every month. They put on a great show and their production is incredible and so adaptable. This one’s off of the Stanton Sessions Vol. 3 compilation.

Both sides of this single are incredible. The flip is a bit cheeky, but everyone likes hearing it.

This one hasn’t reached the KICK 40 yet but maybe now that I’m bringing a little attention to the tune, the boss might find more merit in it. Probably not. You’re best bet then, is to listen to THE SHAKE (facebook group) every Friday night for a weekly dose of dancefloor heat. Like the band’s presence on the KICK 40 this track has been about for a minute already. It even started THE SHAKE on the July 25th episode, but don’t let this stop you from giving it the blog love, especially because this track’s so HOT!

The original by MGMT is pretty good, actually it’s really good and I hope it climbs up a spot to number one. Justice added some of their filter magic turning the tune into a slow-moving floor burner. The vocal addition from the Broolyn production duo DDPESH adds some B.I.G. 90s gangsta flow.

Last winter local party enthusiasts THE NUTTY KLUB booked THE GLAMOUR to play at a metal bar called the Albert here in Winnipeg. I know there are better things to talk about other than the weather – uh, like fear mongering propaganda behind every single Republican election campaign, but Milwaukee’s best neon revitalists, THE GLAMOUR, were snowed in and couldn’t make it to the gig. Even without the headliners the event was a bit over the top.

Well, they’re playing at The Pyramid this Friday, July 25. Jason and I are giving away two pairs of tickets on our show THE SHAKE (facebook group). We roll every Friday night from 8-9 on 92.9 KICK FM, and play an aural potluck of electro, robotdisco, mashups, club whathaveyou. You can think of it as a warmup for the evening and maybe win a pair of tickets courtesy of MIKE B.
