ROBOTGLAM

Monday, April 14, 2008

Three more tracks on high rotation here at Manalogue, all of them loosely fitting into what I call ROBOTGLAM. They all shimmer like hair metal did 20 years ago, except guitars have been replaced by drum machines and synthesizers. Play them for yer Gran and watch her get down.

First up is another production by GRUM. Built largely on a house music platform this tune bursts with neon flashes and sparkly synth highlights.

MP3: GRUM - Heartbeats (Edwin Van Cleef remix)

(**This will be getting a full release soon so the link had to be removed.)

The next track rolls out somewhat of a disco vocal on top of the Hail Social’s cyborg chorus of brightly distorted and flanged keyboards.

MP3: Hail Social - Heaven (Designer Drugs remix)

This remix of Damn Arms brings in a full spectral sonic assult and sounds like it should be accompanied with a laser lightshow at all times. Deadly.

MP3: Damn Arms - The Not So Progressive Punks (Narctrax remix) (1928 rework)

KYLIE

Thursday, April 10, 2008

Wow. George get’s all the hot dance numbers this week. Tuesday Moby was on the show, and yesterday Kylie Minogue made an appearance, in the form of a re-run mind you. The Aussie superstar dropped her surname and goes by Kylie now, perhaps in pursuit of a more simple marketing scheme. Anyway, she’s undergone more transformations than Madonna could shake her somethings at. Check the rundown.

Pop Tart Princes

As a kid I was all about this song. I danced to it at a sock hop in elementary school. Werd up.

MP3: Kylie Minogue - The Locomotion

Soft and Vicious VIXEN

From 2001 to 2003 I worked at a software company in Vancouver. I travelled to Toronto countless times and Kylie was always the soundtrack. The CFO and I got all jiggy whenever we heard her.

MP3: Kylie Minogue - Can’t Get You Out of My Head

BONUS: DJ DUBZ - Can’t Get You to Shut Up (Kylie Minogue vs. Black Eyed Peas)

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHH

When I lived in Brighton I picked up this limited edition picture disc. Unfortunately the better remixes are on the flip so I don’t get to see Kylie spinning round baby right round…er sumthin like that.

MP3: Kylie - Slow (Radio Slave remix)

MP3: Kylie - Slow (Medicine 8 remix)

Electro Queen

Not that all her new tunes could be called electro, it seems as though she’s sculpted that sort of image for herself. The list of commissioned and bootleg remixes help her out with this identity a bit - so does this picture.

MP3: Kylie - Boombox (LA Riots clip)

MP3: Kylie - In My Arms (Sebastien Leger mix)

MP3: Kylie - Wow (MSTRKRFT remix)

Chris Rockwell rocks well!

Monday, April 7, 2008

Chris Rockwell sasy he’s been spinning records since the age of 12. That’s quite the feat since he’s 28 now. With former residencies at Ottawa hotspots such as Helsinki, MTL & Co., and Kinki he’s been around the block a few times and is no stranger to free drinks and debilitating hangovers. Currently resident at Cornerstone with frequent gigs at Sunrise Afterhours, Club Heaven and various other events, he is busier than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest these days. He’s appeared on the bill with DJ’s such as Hatiras, Mat The Alien, Luke Fair, Endo, Eddy Jasmin, and the immensely popular Jokers of the Scene of “Y’All Know The Name” fame.

He sent his latest mix my way and it’s outstanding. Complete party rocker from start to finish. Check it out here.

I’m supposed to making money…

Monday, April 7, 2008

Well, aren’t we all. Really though I need to find additional income especially with some expenses coming this way. This post, despite my wife’s preference takes precedence however. (She’s so sick of everything I play, she probably doesn’t read my blog anymore anyway. PS I love you LV!)

While I’m working on a few things to advance some financial stability some tunes are playing. I’m sitting down typing and thinking and typing and thinking then the LA Riots vs. Villains remix of Hot Chip’s Ready for the Floor starts to pound. I turn the volume up, then up again, totally drowning the next door neighbour’s construction noise. The tune with it’s booming bass sonics and synth stabs pull me to my feet and I’m rocking it all by myself in my living room. No lie, fists clenched and repeatedly raise up and down like a dancefloor piston.

THE SHAKE Fridays: March 21

Saturday, March 22, 2008

Sorry no pretty pictures just yet. I wanted to get this post done more than anything…been a bit quiet round these here parts. This is the playlist from tonight’s radio show. THE SHAKE runs every Friday on 92.9 KICK FM in Winnipeg. You can stream the show at www.kick.fm

Jason was visiting family so once again I was the soul beat captain. The journey starts slowly, moving into grime, garage, and hip hop. Loads of French house and some ace remixes. I can’t escape the big wave stompers so in the end, that’s what you’re left with. Straight to the digs then.

01. Lil Mama - Lip Gloss (Ghislain Poirier remix)
Montreal’s king of dub hammers the rnb swinger into a minimal bass monster.

http://www.myspace.com/ghislainpoirier

02. OH SNAP! - High Top Fade
Kid n Play throwback fun rap with oh so wobbly basslines. Eat it up.

http://www.myspace.com/daworldfamousohsnap

03. Cadence Weapon - House Music (A1 Bassline remix)
From Edmonton Alberta, the latest Canadian rap rage revved-up in the garage customized by London garage renegades. A1 Bassline are killin it!

http://www.myspace.com/cadenceweaponmusic

http://www.myspace.com/a1bassline

04. The Whitest Boy Alive - Golden Cage (Fred Falke remix)
Changed direction here. Beautiful French house remix by one of the French Touch. Played best when welcoming the sunrise.

http://www.myspace.com/erlendoyeplease

05. Justice - D.A.N.C.E. (Les Rhythms Digitales remix)
No, not another D.A.N.C.E. remix. It’s been hacked over and over but this is Stuart Price. OMG. I’m callin it too: best remix of 2008. Get ready to ignite!

06. Decalicious - La Faviere 76 (Larsz Chaptier)
Wonkey German techno and filtered house. Crazy good.

Cansei de Ser Sexy at a robotdisco run by the electro mafia.

This song seems ancient. If yer unfamiliar, scoop this up.

http://www.myspace.com/mstrkrft

09. Michael Jackson - P.Y.T. (Marquis remix)
Not much left of the original tune in this remix but it’s sweetness makes up for it. As with most things this sugary, it’s best to serve this occasionally.

http://www.myspace.com/marquisdc

10. Armand Van Helden - You Don’t Know Me (GRUM remix)
Don’t be put off by the beatless strobed intro. Once this drops it’s all forgiven.

http://www.myspace.com/armandvanhelden

http://www.myspace.com/grummmusic

11. DJ Missil - Glitch (Tepr remix)
Simultaneous bomber and laser assult.

13. The Whip - Trash (South Central remix)
Bass and chainsaw reworking. Plus, it’s Manchester meets Brighton. It’s an older righteousness. Heavy.

http://www.myspace.com/thewhipmanchester

http://www.myspace.com/southcentralmusic

14. The Kills - Cheap and Cheerful (Nite Cells bored robot remix)
You’re left with a bit of monster here. It starts slowly but then the bassline gets ground up into long meaty sausages. (Really, did I just write that?)

COME D.A.N.C.E.

Wednesday, March 12, 2008

For the Winnipeg homies:

Your favourite KICK FM jocks host Ready Mix this Thursday at the Zoo. Before you get any crazy ideas, no Jason and I won’t be protecting our junk with jock straps, rather we’ll be disc jockeying at the weekly double decker dance party. We were asked to

I know it’s a bit of a shameless self promotion, so I also give you, yes another D.A.N.C.E. remix. Before you turn away thinking the world doesn’t need another version of this song, well, you need to hear this.

wait was that…

Tuesday, March 11, 2008

There’s a number of tunes I totally pass up on the first few listens. Nearly the entire Justice album was like that, the same goes for Simian Mobile Disco’s Attack Decay Sustain Relase. Here’s another squelchy filtered monster getting high rotation this spring. I’d say it’s an early contender for best rave track of 2008.

MP3: Plastic Operator - Home 0207 (Hermanos Ingesos Remix Part 2) | [direct download]

Part one will get lots of play too. I think my wife will appreciate it’s more tranquil moodiness much more than the former track’s analogue annihilation.

MP3: Plastic Operator - Home 0207 (Hermanos Ingesos Remix Part 1) | [direct download]

These are only 128 kbs but the dj quality single is available on beatport now, also with remix by speakerjunk, and Chewy Chocolate Cookies. The official release date is March 24.
