It’s all beginning to make sense now. A few months back we heard THE SPANK!‘s moombah stomper remix of Timothy Wisdom’s “Jiggle What You Got.” I remember thinking to myself, who is this fellow? Some new talent signed to BOMBASTIC JAM? At the time, I couldn’t find any info about him. Turns out he’s none other than the German funky breaks pioneer, BASEMENT FREAKS.

In this side project, The Spank! delves into the realms of bass music, jumping from moombahton, dancehall, and glitch-hop. This new freebee does just that. With a choice Grand Master Flash sample and a crushing moombah low end, this is a mid-tempo jam to be played loud and proud.

As promised earlier, here’s a proper post for TIMOTHY WISDOM‘s Get Your Hands Up Remixes EP. It’s out on Bombastic Jam as a beatport exclusive.

The standout is obviously NYNFUS CORPORATION‘s remx of “Black n Tan” which takes the stomp from the original and smashes it. Not getting tired of this tune anytime soon.

If you’re after something a little more into the Ghetto Funk tradition, DJ AKA has you covered. Plus, there’s a dub of this remix too.

…and if you like that moombah vibe, THE SPANK! is your man. The EP includes a dub of this mix too, you know, sans vocals.

DJ HERO – NECESSARY INGREDIENTS EP1

From euphoric chords, to hip hop vocals via acid house and lots of big room bass, DJ HERO flexes his musical muscles this year. The 5 EPs, all featuring a mix of original new tracks and re-edits of Ground Level back catalogue, will also be joined by a mix album on iTunes later this year, combining the tracks from the EPs with DJ Hero’s previous remixes for Ground Level.

EP1 contains two tracks featured on US breaks legend Baby Anne’s mix “Bad Baby.” First up comes the VIP of D-Bot, a collaboration with Baby Anne, combining chords ripped apart with a chainsaw and lashes of robotic bass and wobbles.

Next up is Kickin It, a fusion of breaks and broken house, with a huge chord sequence and dirty dutch lead hook. Kickin It gets the remix treatment from DJ Hero himself who slows the tempo down into a moombahton stomper. The re-rub ends up working every bit as well as this tempo as at the original.

NAPT – BABY I LIKE IT EP (FREE DOWNLOAD)

NAPT, the originators and purveyors of n-funk, keep redefining the n-funk parameters. Let’s take their latest as a prime example. The title track in the free EP would notably qualify – with big, big bass and a subtle break one might surmise this tune falls squarely into the overall vibe the lads set with n-funk a few years back.

The b-side however, clearly takes a different direction. While the bass is big, the tempo is slowed and is in fact the London duo’s moombahton interpretation. Both cuts have their surprises though. Take a peek, then grab the free downloads.

Is it just me or do all of these mirrored kaleidoscopic effects always look like vaginas?

Halloween has to one of the best excuses of the year to party as an adult. Suggestive and inappropriate costumes aside, the holiday is always a great time. This year will be no different. In Winnipeg alone there are many options. I’m happy to announce that I’ll participate again, much to my wife’s chagrin.

THE REAPERS BALL features a two-floor event with headliners KJ SAWKA and WILL BAILEY. With 10 of our city’s best purveyors of beats and bass, this is a must-attend soiree.

For those who need to know, KJ Sawka drums for PENDULUM. Oh, those guys. Anyway, dood does some amazing things. Check it out.
