Following on the heels of his recent ‘Ouch!’ and ‘You’ve Been Magnetized’ EPs on Lektroluv, Belgium’s MR. MAGNETIK has taken the leap across the Atlantic to deliver a new stormer to Coco Machete Records. The Animatronik EP comes with three grinding synth driven tracks for anytime of the night or into the morning.

First up is the EPs namesake with a builder primed to jump start any party into gear. This is my favourite track of the EP. Somehow it bridges old and new electro using deep bass kicks, subtle handclaps, squelch, and glitch that will keep you stuttering until morning.

‘Born To Rave’, with it’s jumpy Dutch house rhythms and snare rolls will keep you marching into the wee hours.

Finally ‘My Friend’ is a track that can knock the dance floor back to earth with it’s blistering meltdown and builds.

Several months back now, Elite Force ran a little competition on his facebook page asking for suggestions on new tracks to Revamp, with the winner grabbing one of the top-end  ‘Revamped’ packages from the Elite Force site and the winning entry came from Ivano Knight who suggested Midnight Juggernauts’ ‘Tombstone’. Well, grab the result below.

Yes folks, we get so many bad emails every single day I am sure that it makes more than just myself cringe… it’s not the music, sometimes the music is amaaaaaaazing, it’s the emails that make me want to kill myself. Between poorly written promos, bad DJ names and blah blah blah, my already injured brain has trouble keeping up… I love you… but if you can be elegant, to the point, and send SOUNDCLOUD links, I would be much much much more inclined to check out your tunes.

BLAZE TRIPP is the aforementioned aussie and his remix of the Chemical Brothers is a real winner.

It’s everything I love about new and old rave, using a technology I enjoy.

The funny thing about this tune is it came a day before I was supposed to play this outdoor party and I’m sure many of the people attending once wore (or would have worn if they were old enough) fat phat pants. Does that make things clear? Basically, it was supposed to be a rave. I’m not sure those things exist anymore so it would have been nice to find out. The party was rained out and blown down with the storm of the year.

It was difficult finding music to play for this party because my memories of raves are from over ten years ago. Mostly. There have been a handful of parties since then, including one in the dugout, dirt, basement of an abandoned church in Brighton which was, well, everything one could imagine in such a location.

Anyway, in my mind music at these types of events is supposed to be underground. I had a difficult time picking tunes that fit the bill, mostly because I can’t decipher what’s underground anymore and since everything is saturated and borrows elements from every style I don’t think it exists these days. (BTW, I hope I’m wrong, but I also hope it’s not because I’m getting on in years and completely out of touch, which is completely possible.)

So then this NAPT tune arrives in the inbox and gives me some inspiration. The vocal sample is perfect and reminds me of tunes from the mid-90s that contained similar messages. Plus the tune is thunderous and balanced and will get the kids jumping to and fro.

It’s impossible to get away from the robotdisco. Not that I’m complaining, in fact, if I could describe my musical preferences in a single word, that would be it. Well, maybe I’d add a few key genres slash descriptions because there’s no need to paint myself into a musical corner. No no.

SCION A/V‘s latest promo package is full of robot juice, ideal for dancing. I’m listening to the Bryan Jones remix right now and the acid lines are sending me through space and time. I might as well start with this tune then…

Atlanta’s Treasure Fingers gives his take on “Rock Lights” with some of the classic glitch, stutter and urgency that has made him a consistent killer in the nu disco scene. Starting the track off with a basic beat and a tiny tease of Bear Who?’s vocal line, Treasure Fingers keeps the party going.

London electro duo Mighty Mouse bring up the crunch of the bassline and add a sci-fi cinematic touch to “Rock Lights.” On their nearly eight-minute interpretation they let the momentum build slowly before bringing in the hook on a sparkling wave of synth. From there the track belongs in the realm of warm-hearted robotdisco with an extra celestial groove.

Bass music’s man of a thousand faces HERVÉ is ready to tear things up with his upcoming EP, “Zombies.” The four-pack includes the original and two remixes from Franzy Scanner, another member of the CHEAP THRILLS family. The fouth cut, “Hot! Drum Attack” is an assult of kuduro-influenced rhythms and squelching electro. In all honesty though, it sounds like another version of the title track from the release. Does it matter? No. Why? It’s simple really – you feel like turning yourself into a sweaty mess and this is just the single to do it.

Hervé’s “Ghetto Bass” compilation from a couple years ago garnered tonnes of attention from djs worldwide. Keep an eye out for Ghetto Bass 2 which drops on April 12.

The Montreal duo have been on top of things for a while, and I’ll be completely honest here, since “Droplet” and “Miam Miam” were let loose in the summer, I’ve been trigger happy with every track that has their name on it. There’s enough nostalgia in each of these tunes for a thirty-something-once-upon-a-time-raver (that’s me by the way) to, excuse me, fucking lose it. Add some of the best production of 2009 to the mix and well, it seems as though there are a million reasons to hail this release as the best ever. Really, ever.

On Friday, February 5, 2010 the single got an official release on PLANT MUSIC with remixes from FELIX CARTAL and AUTOEROTIQUE. After hearing these mixes I went into immediate cardiac arrest. Basically, I died and somehow I’m living off of the single’s perpetual beat.

So being a Canadian blog, we get excited when our fellow countrymen are releasing tunes. As a Canadian, I get REALLY excited when former cast members of my favourite television programme becomes a rapper of note. It’s even better when said rapper of note gets together with an awesome Canadian DJ, and things go off. I was kind of blown away to see Jimmy walking around like it was no big deal. I’m talking about DRAKE if you weren’t paying attention.

This is a fun little edit/remix that sends Wayne home and makes it RAVE.

One of the reasons (honestly, there are many!) there have been fewer posts is because a mate and I started a weekly. (LOTEK and MANALOGUE have been tag-teaming as THE SHAKE for a few years now.) I feel as though I’m only putting in half the amount of time needed to get this night off the ground, but that’s all I can give at the moment considering other commitments that are a bit more pressing, paying the mortgage for example. If you’re wondering, blogging doesn’t really make any money, well I haven’t figured out exactly how to do it anyway. (Tips are welcome.)

Back to the post. This week I’m pumped to host JAMALL KNIGHT and BERBS. Winnipeg is saturated with djs, and I’d be hard pressed to find any jock in this city I like more than the former. Perhaps it’s because Jamall Knight plays like I/we do – which is a bit all over the place, and every time I’ve seen him behind the decks he consistently drifts to the likes of Proxy, and other noisy producers. Also, big thanks to our freshly minted vj, MRGHOSTY who gives everyone something interesting to look at when they’re dancing or not. This guy’s incredible. I’m totally looking forward to tomorrow!
