This IS A Best Of Post

Thursday, December 31, 2009

But not a very researched one. Actually, that’s a lie. For the last two months when I wasn’t bombarded with homework, I was trying to download EVERY ALBUM I MISSED LAST YEAR. The results? Don’t ever try to do that…
MODERAT
I have one fav. album from last year. MODERAT -- MODERAT (or would you write it MODERAT -- S/T?) on BPitch CONTROL from Germany. It’s got just the right amount of thump blended seamlessly amongst the sappy. I suggest the CD version over the vinyl because the vinyl doesn’t include BEATS WAY SICK featuring BUSDRIVER (On a side note, this years album JHELLI BEAM by BUSDRIVER didn’t quite do it for me). MODERAT are a collaboration between APPARAT & MODESELEKTOR.

The I wish all at the staff at MANALOGUE the best of luck in the New Year and to all the people out there behind the screen…keep listening.

Honourable Mentions:
Applescal -- A Slave’s Commitment [Traum Schallplatten]
The Field -- Yesterday & Today [Kompakt]
Kap Bambino -- Blacklist [Because Music]
Nathan Fake -- Hard Islands [Border Community]
Telefon Tel Aviv -- Immolate Yourself [BPitch Control]
Zombie Nation -- Zombielicious [UKW]

GTRONIC + STEREOHEROES + HOSTAGE

Friday, December 18, 2009

I know I just posted the latest from GTRONIC a couple days ago, but since BMKLTSCH RCRDS just sent the whole package, including the original, HOSTAGE, and STEREOHEROES mixes, I figured you might as well get a proper download out of it, right? So here’s that monster remix from  and two more deadly stompers!

Do yourself a favour and grab the 320s.

As a bonus, perhaps an incentive, here’s one you might have heard before. Electro clichés aside, this one lives up to its name. Really, it’s a disservice to play any of these in a pair of cans. At the very least, plug into your hifi at home and turn it up; better yet burn them onto a cd and demand your favourite dj to play them.

POPULAR DAMAGE + FUKKK OFFF

Thursday, December 17, 2009

POPULAR DAMAGE had some success with their ‘assimilations’ of Digitalism and Tegan & Sara. With their own release they’ve recruited some heavyweights for remix duty. Coco Machete’s mainstay, FUKKK OFFF adds his signature ravey piano stabs and viscous basslines to PD’s latest single, giving it (and you) a bolt of energy to pass that 4 AM slump.

CHECK YR PULSE

Wednesday, December 16, 2009

I seriously need to work on some self-promotion. ha. Don’t we all. THE SHAKE started a weekly night of dancing. LOTEK and I are trying something a bit different with CHECK YR PULSE here in Winnipeg by catering to the origins of electronic dance music. The opening night was a hit but last week I think the frigid temperature got the best of most people.

Anyway, this week we’ve got some great djs. KHEMLAB and CHRIS KOMUS will warm the dancefloor with some techno, minimal, and tech house (or haus if you’re feeling the German roots).

I’m not sure what I’ll play but it might involve something like this bootleg from NUNZI.

AC SLATER

Sunday, December 6, 2009

It’s the end of the year and I’m starting to put together a list of best of material for 2009. AC SLATER will be on that list for remixes and original material, after all he has a catalogue running thick enough to build a bomb shelter with. Here though, is the latest from the Philly native. It’s what you come to expect from the lad: round bubbly bass so thick it gets stuck in your teeth with a really nice surprise too.

MP3: AC Slater -- Play the Record Again ♥♥♥

This track is a bit too cheeky to make the year’s best list although AC (Aaron Clevenger) does take a nice stab at Henry Rollins and his ignorant, unfunny comedy. The sketch below is like spreading hatred for anything not rock and roll so thanks Mr. Clevenger for letting us all laugh at a punk rock douche bag.

We all know it’s one thing to be a wizard in the studio but it takes a little something else to get in front of a crowd and just let go.

NROTB x Drop The Lime

Wednesday, November 4, 2009

While it may not seem fair to some, but having that talent to drop two fun remixes of the same tune. People will be jealous of course, people will bitch and moan, people will call you out, but we all know the facts. NROTB bring it with everything they got, well dressed, well mixed, well done.

DROP THE LIME is another bringer who brings it like bringing it is going out of style. I’d suggest gauging which tune to drop in your DJ set depending on the crowd’s Neon Bracelet to Black Eyeliner ratio. If it’s 1:1, play both back to back for 11 plus minutes of killer rave fun.

UNDERHALL + BESTRACK + STEREOHEROES + POLA RIOT + KAPTURE + AMPERSAND

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

UNDERHALL is a new act from the south of France. , Lucas, 20, and Roger, 23, say their influences are balanced beetween electro and house  but since they only sent some grinding chainsaw cuts I’d say they lean a lot more to the former.

Their first EP on On The Fruit Records is so strong they were able to recruit a number of heavyweights for some stellar remixes. It’s difficult to highlight any one track in particular so here they all are, with a maximal payload big enough to crash dancefloors world wide.
