Influential Australian labe MODULAR have dropped a couple of promos this week. You probably already saw them somewhere else but if you passed over them, shame.

In anticipation of VAN SHE’s forthcoming full length V , here are two remixes by the band’s dancefloor moniker VAN SHE TECH. The first piece of noodling rockets their own track with some 4-4 sonics and elevates it to throbbing stomper. The debut long player from the Sydney, Australia four-piece is out in August.

MP3: Van She - Strangers (Van She Tech rework)

Van She Tech also inject some neon shimmer and shredded bass into LADYHAWKE’s “Back of the Van.” It’s a bit reminiscent of their rework of the UTAH SAINTS classic.

There’s a reason for the massive Manalogue absence. Without going into too much detail it involves getting a house ready to sell which required me to take down my turntables and laptop. When my wife initially asked me to do it I agreed because the setup was in our living room and would only appeal to DJs potentially buying the house. There are a tonne of jocks in Winnipeg, but I the chances that one of them wanted to by our are pretty slm. It’s funny though, when my wife and I got home last night, one of the Nutty Klub officers came for a viewing. Weird. Anyway, a couple weeks ago when I finally disassembled everything I acted like a child with a full-on sulk-fest as if all my favourite toys were taken away. Well, all my favourite toys were taken away and they’re still covered up in the basement.

So, here’s a quick post…

SAINT PAULI has cranked out a number of remixes lately and here’s their latest. It’s a cutup off of the new B-52s record with grinding basslines and bursting rainbows of glossy synth work. This track is perfect for bringing me out of this brief hybernation.

MP3: B-52s - Juliette in the Spirits (Saint Pauli rmx)

CANDY COATED KILLAHZ are throwing down a release party for their debut full length IT FACTOR. If you’re in Toronto on May 8, check out the clambake at Wrongbar (1279 Queen Street West). The album will be available through iTunes and other avenues.

In their single Playboy, singer and producer Tosha Dash slides out sweet and sultry vocals over top shadowy club rhythms. It’s a combination that doesn’t fatigue. I like this b-side too.

I don’t like posting pieces about the same artists so close together but the remix below directly links two posts from this month. I’m excusing myself of the rule because of the serendipitous first degree of separation.

After dropping DUSTY KID’s remix of DISCO LIES repeatedly the last two days I’ve concluded that the track needs to be heard by everyone. Dusty Kid spins this tune into another galaxy. It’s a nine minute trip that takes you deeeeeeeeeep into dim bass and techno caverns with washes of warm yet eerie blankets of robotdisco strings. The voyage is routed on precise mechanical beeping that alters communication within your body. I mentioned this a few posts ago.

MP3: Moby - Disco Lies (The Dusty Kid’s Fears remix)

The other artists deserve the double recognition too. I also listen to the SPENCER AND HILL remix found on MOBY’s single four times a day which is unusual because I don’t normally like vocals like the ones in this mixup. Heavy and modern disco.

I dug up the FUNKERMAN remix so I’ll drop it this Friday on THE SHAKE. (check us on facebook).

I’m going to try to find at least one track a week from the KICK 40 that’s been re-re-reeee-constructed for the dance floor.

MP3: Yoav - Club Thing (Funkerman remix)

THE SHAKE
every friday night from 8-9
Winnipeg’s new sound

Since my last post was a bit of an oldie - in recognition of the most current generation of dance music and its short shelf life - I might as well share a true old timer. Incidentally, this is the greatest house track ever according to Manalogue. In 1996 when I first heard the DA FUNK 12″ with MUSIQUE on the flip I was a volunteer at the campus & community radio station at the U of L. Since then, dance music has come a long way in terms of production, innovation, and volume of releases. “Musique” is as fresh as any track produced before or since.

MP3: Daft Punk - Musique

http://www.myspace.com/daftpunk

Oh, the radio station was known as CKUL, but when the license switched to FM, the call letters changed to CKXU.
