Here’s a bit of a rushed mix I did for THE SHAKE, a weekly radio show LOTEK and I do every Friday night on KICK FM. Lotek and I are both out of town this week, hence the mix. It starts off with a bunch of robotdisco jams and gets into some house-flavoured breaks and ends with nu disco and tech house.

Winnipeg is waving another sad goodbye to yet another weekly. First, Goodform, then Luckymix, and now READYMIX, who will host their last Thursday night jam on September 2. THE SHAKE were invited to play a few times land despite some hostile requests LOTEK and I always had a good time.

The Readymix crew will continue to throw some one-offs so keep your eyes and ears peeled. They took some big risks trying to bring (nu) electro to this city so let’s wish them all the best and thank them for three years of cheap drinks and sticky dancefloors.

They’ve since started a late night radio show on UMFM that runs every Saturday night from 1-3am and have kicked it off with a 2 hour tribute mix, playing Readymix anthems from the past 3 years. It’s available for download at http://www.readymixradio.com/.

This Thursday marks a new beginning for BEAUCHAMP. The Goodform weekly has ended with the quote-unquote retirement of Rob Vilar. In it’s place comes UNKNOWN PLEASURES. To celebrate, Beauchamp made a mix – cop it below.

There’s a part of me that feels guilty for posting previous versions of the latest CHROMEO single, but let’s forget that shall we?

CHRISTIAN MARTIN is one of my favourite producers. If you’re unfamiliar with him, I’d say you better educate yourself with him and others in the San Francisco bass crew under DIRTY BIRD RECORDS. (Incidentally, a great place to start with the Dirty Bird education is the “Five Years of Dirtybird” compilation.) The label is responsible for some of the best house music on the planet and like this remix, it’s always deep and rich and meant for dim spaces. Indeed, don’t turn the lights on.

KAVINSKY is back and about to drop his latest single “Nightcall” on September 10th via the legendary French electronic imprint RECORD MAKERS. We’re excited to offer you not one, but three remixes of the single, representative of the French-filtered robotdisco. It’s sensual, epic and romantic, exactly like you’d expect.

Produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk and mixed by SebastiAn, the track finds the spooky, distorted, zombie vocals of Kavinsky perfectly counterbalanced by the sultry purr of CSS’ front kitten Lovefoxxx.

The remix package for this release comes courtesy of secretive and emblematic figures. Kavinsky & Record Makers organized a remix contest which ended with 533 entries- the winners being Robotaki and SAWAGii’s remixes, both included in the digital version, as well as the great work of the funky new Ed Banger sensation Breakbot.

The legend of Kavinsky is an interesting one – the strory goes that he died in a car crash in 1986, whilst driving his beloved Testarossa. He re-appeared as a ZOMBIE in 2005, with his 12-inch, Teddy Boy. Since then, he has shown up all around the globe, playing his music to humans. Crowds gathered to witness the miracle: despite being dead, Kavinsky was still alive. In 2007, he released his second 12-inch, ‘1986’. This is when his French robot mates in Daft Punk invited him to join their Alive Tour, and A-Trak put together an American Tour in his now repaired Testarossa. After rediscovering the world with his red eyes, Kavinsky retreated to his base camp to work on his debut album. Now, the zombie is striking back. After months of studio work on his forthcoming album, he & Record Makers have decided to release “Nightcall” as an apéritif.

So I got the go ahead from Manalogue to shamelessly self promote myself. I mentioned in previous posts that I do in fact produce, I have posted a remix, and a mix I made, but this may take it to the next step.

After realizing that no one was going to email me out of the blue and offer me a record deal, I decided to take some initiative and drop this split tape with my buddy SLEEPYHEAD. I won’t blow any smoke up your ass about how this music will change the world, but I think both sides are pretty decent, so I am sharing this with all of our blog lovers.

Sleepyhead rocks “Light Pollution” pretty hard, we recorded it in his stinky basement in Lethbridge, I think it turned out pretty good. The BONNAVENTURE JAMES tune “Polaroid” was written in Montreal, and recorded in Brooks Alberta, another stinky basement in Southern Alberta.

Have you ever been to  Alberta? I’ve blah blahed about it before, so I won’t continue too much with the flowery praise. I will however remind everyone to be thankful that such an out of the way place, produces such great music. Case in point; KUMON PLAZA and GOBBLE GOBBLE hailing from Edmonton and AZEDA BOOTH from Calgary. I’m hoping to see KUMON PLAZA play with Calgary indie rockers WOMEN, the avant-rock two piece FAUX FUR and the very cool AZEDA BOOTH at the all ages venue LOCAL LIBRARY.

La Bombe is the brand new label from UK DJ/producer Sharooz. Launching with a simple goal, their sole mission is to release forward thinking dancefloor bombs, irrespective of genre.

The label’s latest release comes from sterling new talent 5EYA. Daniele Pianigiani aka 5EYA is probably best known as DJ partner to fellow Italian whizzkid Phonat. Together the two foolhardy sample slayers have singlehandedly reinvented nu-disco, mashing and merging styles with the click of a mouse.
