THE TWELVES

THE TWELVES are in Winnipeg tomorrow! I’m pretty stoked for this show – it’s not very often one get’s to see acts from Brazil in Winnipeg so thanks to the fine people over at CONFETTI for bringing them. To celebrate an unusual Monday night party, here’s a bit of a super post. Before the jump however, here’s the event link.

CICADA

I like singles with variety. That said, my wallet doesn’t like them so much because I end up buying too many versions of the same track. CICADA may put you in a similar situation. For the most part, I’d say the single and remixes fall into the realm of robotdisco. The production results in shiny dancefloor electronics for androids who may or may not have problems with white powder. That’s besides the point really. “One Beat Away” released on Critical Mass, gets the remix treatment from Cicada themselves, as well as ARNO COST, and KELEVRA, who’s stompy rework gets my vote for the best in the package. The track is also remixed by Aaron Gilbert from Cicada also does some deluxe polishing.

Here’s a track included in the promo pack as a bonus (sorry, stream only) that features vocals from Tom Smith of THE EDITORS.

CICADA + DYEBOX

Here’s some monumental robotdisco. Better known for turning The Editors and Depeche Mode into modern dance floor destroyers, CICADA originally came to exist as the remix and production duo of Aaron Gilbert and Alex Payne, and in no time released a series of acclaimed remixes for artists in the likes of New Order, Paloma Faith, Electric Six, and The Enemy. Through word-of-mouth and electrifying live & DJ performances, their self released debut album ‘ Cicada’ sold over 30,000 copies and their just released album ‘Roulette’ looks set to follow.

The duo says they’ve missed the dance floor terribly, and have decided to go back to their ‘dance’ roots, reeling in a succession of quality remixes for ‘Psycho Thrills’, from DJ Delicious’s German Tech-Funk, Aniki’s wonky breakdown, Baldo’s melodic techy loveliness to newcomers DYEBOX with their pure retro electro vocal number. Cicada’s Capricorn Original Mix is thrown in for good measure in all its pop glory. Something for everyone and a record that is set to be huge on the dancefloors this summer.

CICADA + THE TWELVES

CICADA came to exist originally as the remix and production duo of Alex and Aaron, and in no time released a series of acclaimed remixes of artists as diverse as Depeche Mode, New Order, Chelonis Jones, and others. Their second album comes out on May 25 and is preceded by their first single – both released on CRITICAL MASS. Here’s a taste, albeit with a little magic from THE TWELVES.
