There’s a new weekly club night in Winnipeg. If you haven’t guessed, it’s called CHECK YR PULSE, and well, Manalogue is half responsible for it. I DJas a duo called THE SHAKE with the super deluxe LOTEK. Our beginning was pretty usual, playing parties for friends and such but we became a little more serious when we started hosting and programming our radio show called THE SHAKE which still keeps its focus by highlighting new dance music of many sorts.
The weekly, will focus a bit more on the underground – that’s where our roots are and every week we’re bringing in guests DJs with a goal of bringing the underground dance community together. To launch the night we have 14 13 local DJs playing, including ourselves. It all goes down tomorrow so if you’re in town, head to PURE. The club recently remodeled and didn’t skimp on the sound. I can’t wait to play there, it’s going to be sick! Here’s the lineup:
Lotek – Bassline/Electro/Robot Disco
Manalogue – Bassline/Electro/Robot Disco
Luis Cardona – House/Tech House
LSDave – Tech House
Nathan Zahn – Deep Tech
L’il Phil – House/Disco/Electro
Sw@t – Bassline
Krisco – Tech House
Encode – Funky Tribal House
SpaM – Breaks/Electro/Fidget
Owen Reynolds – Deep Tech Voules & Random – Electro Tech
…and now what you came here for in the first place.
A couple of PASSION PIT remixes for you. The first is from SHUTTLE (Nate Donmoyer Drummer of Passion Pit) who delivers a heavy load of bass over the original track’s dreamy synth. BURNS unexpectedly gets low and slow considering his output on his previous production credits. I guess he’s changing pace.
Speaking of Burns, he was just given the nod for his cosmic disco edit of EMPIRE OF THE SUN‘s “We Are The People.” I know what you’re thinking. Can Burns really have another remix under his belt – and holy muther eff, there’s another EOTS remix? Seriously?
My mate over at PLANET SHHH gave love to THE GOLDEN FILTER last summer and since then, “Solid Gold” has been running through various playlists of mine. You know already know this tune but here it is again.
Here’s one maybe you haven’t heard yet however. RUSS CHIMES offer his take on “Solid Gold” and takes it to new robotdisco heights. He strips out most of the original sheen and replaces it with a thicker bassline and a faster tempo.
EMPIRE OF THE SUN appears on these pages a few times, as well as on countless blogs throughout the internets. The Golden Filter add their glimmer and shimmer to yet another track that’s been blogged and remixed nearly to death. The sparkly synth is a bit formulaic, but who cares – it’s so good. Except for the s-u-p-e-r l-o-n-g intro this track is perfect.
What? To date I don’t think I’ve heard a blues-like guitar lick sampled in anything electro-based. Until now anyway. Apparently NEO is Hungary’s most popular electronic band. Fellow countrymen TITS & CLITS give their 2006 single a rework.
Someone described this remix as “hands-in-the-air and up-the-skirt” so I guess if you’re that short, the world really is a party. Uuuuuuh. KOTCHY does do some nice tricks with his rework for EMPIRE OF THE SUN. The drums are infectious and the synth work makes it compulsory to get low.
