NICK THAYER IN WINNIPEG

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems like Winnipeg is a hotbed for ghetto funk. We’ve seen some incredible acts come through this city – NICK THAYER being the latest. We can thank our friends at MUSIC FIRST for this show.

I can’t imagine a producer as diverse as Thayer. Everything he does falls loosely into breaks, but the tempo ranges in his production makes him stand out. Yes, there’s breaks plain and simple, but also some of the best ghetto funk and dubstep I’ve heard Thayer has noodled.

The show is at The Zoo on Saturday, January 28. Tickets are $10 and are available at the usual sources. For more details check the facebook event page. Local support provided by some of Winnipeg’s finest, THE V@XXINE, and two of my personal favourite jocks ILL TYPE and  CODA with MC PUCONA.

Here’s a taste of what to expect, but I imagine it’ll be so much better, especially because Thayer plays sets almost consisting of edits he’s done himself.

MUSIC FIRST PRESENTS EPROM

An evening of heavy bass from your friends at MUSIC FIRST. It all goes down Saturday, December 10 at The Zoo in Winnipeg.

They’re bringing in EPROM who is known for his diverse, funky and energetic sets, which cross the lines between live remixing and manipulation of hiphop and dubstep with his own obscenely bass-heavy neurocrunk transmissions. Check below and click here for more event info.

Local support is from Coda + MC Pucona and Theo Tzu.

Oh, and there’s also an afterparty. Details are to be announced, but you can get the scoop here.

NEIGHBOUR IN WINNIPEG

NEIGHBOUR will be in town on October 8 and once again Winnipeg shows us it’s glimmering lights. This will be one of the best shows of the year. Shouts to MUSIC FIRST for bringing him in.

For the past few years HOMEBREAKIN RECORDS has put out some amazing material and on top of that list is work from the label’s founder, Matt Dauncey (aka Neighbour). The Vancouver lad slashes through genres with shards of disco, ghetto funk, and breaks – as such his dj sets reflect his diversity and energy.

We’re giving tickets away on THE SHAKE this Friday. Tune into 92.9 Kick FM from 8-9 to win.

The few tracks below have all been on high rotation, which is precisely why I’m so excited for this show.

Neighbour and Thinktank – Summer Holiday by Homebreakin Records

Neighbour – Summertime Girls by Homebreakin Records

Neighbour – Disco is Back by Homebreakin Records ♥♥♥

Neighbour & Think Tank – Lando (Original Mix) by Homebreakin Records ♥♥♥

MUSIC FIRST PRESENTS: JOKERS OF THE SCENE

I just got word that THE SHAKE is billed to open the JOKERS OF THE SCENE show happening at the Lo Pub tonight. Now I seem like a wanker for doing the post because I’m playing. The truth is I meant to post this long ago. MUSIC FIRST have brought some stellar acts, and what’s coming in the near future is super deluxe! Anyway, it’s going to get sweaty, sweaty tonight so head there early for some bass heavy, techy crunch.

‡ CLASSIC POST ‡ The Brash “Mute (Jokers of the Scene Remix)” by Jokers of the Scene

Chromeo “Hot Mess (Jokers of the Scene Remix)” by Jokers of the Scene

Les GIllettes “Pompeii (Jokers of the Scene Remix)” by Jokers of the Scene

Additional support by the one and only PHAZE-M.

Take a peep at some additional and very fine MUSIC FIRST bills here.

NOM DE STRIP IN WINNIPEG

There’s a lot going on in this town. People finally started to work together on building dancefloors and the stream of heavyweights coming our way isn’t stopping.

MUSIC FIRST sprouted about a year ago, throwing shows and gaining a reputation for quality parties. They’re bringing in some huge acts, the latest of which is NOM DE STRIP. I’m lucky enough to play with him that night too, as half of THE SHAKE, my mate LOTEK and I lay it down at 10:30.
