YURI’S NIGHT is just around the corner! This is one of my favourite events of the year, after all, it’s not every day you get to play in the Manitoba Museum’s Planetarium. As THE SHAKE, Lotek and I have been lucky enough to be part of the Winnipeg event, which is one of hundreds around the planet, since the fist one in 2010.

JFunk, Justin Kace, and Redworm help us out with their space-themed aural adventures and we have mixtapes from them below. The night is always so much fun but the thing is, the Planetarium has a really small capacity so get there early or buy your tickets in advance.

This year is going to be extra special because the Planetarium recently upgraded the facility with a Digistar 5 all-dome projector. I’ve heard tests were amazing. Really looking forward to seeing what JAYMEZ and PIXEL PUSHER will treat us with.

Yuri’s Night commemorates the first human spaceflight by cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin on April 12, 1961 and the inaugural launch of NASA’s Space Shuttle on April 12, 1981. This year marks the 52nd anniversary of Yuri’s flight into space for which the Manitoba Museum is a proud participant in the global night of art, science, and culture of space exploration. In addition to the dance party the night features a space-themed costume contest, cash bar, free pizza, and hands-on science coolness in the Science Gallery.

…and now for the mixes! If you didn’t know LOTEK is the bacon in my breakfast. He shot over his mixtape for MEME submission, appropriately titled MEME Generator. It opens slow, which is one of Lotek’s signatures but gets meaty rather quickly, serving a heavy plate of deep and funky. You’ll dig this one.

I love techno but I rarely listen to it and practically never play it. JUSTIN KACE‘ live mix from DUALBEAT‘s show with Ghosts on Tape, might change that. Love it!

As one of the point men behind BASS INVADERS, Redworm is responsible for bringing some unbelievable shows to Winnipeg. REDWORM‘s sets are something to look forward to because he’s always on top of where things are heading. He normally plays a wide variety of bass music but for this show he tells us he’s shifting things a bit. Unfortunately we don’t have a newer recording for Redworm but take a listen to this anyway – it’ll blow your mind.

Here’s my latest mix. It’s a quick deep house to breaks jaunt.

Sadly too, we don’t have a mix from JFunk, aka Jordan Chester. You need to know this guy though – he’s responsible for bringing some of my favourite djs to Winnipeg. A.Skillz, Krafty Kuts, JFB…the list goes on and on.

A.SKILLZ hits Mytstique Nightclub in Winnipeg on Thursday, March 17 – yes St. Patty’s Day! In fact, it’s his first date on his Canadian tour. The Londoner is seemingly at the top of his game lately which makes his visit to this prairie city all that much more special. I’m pumped to see him and as it turns out, my mate LOTEK and I have been asked to play one of the opening slots in our tagteam we call THE SHAKE.

This 30min mix is a small sample of some of the tracks / bootys / edits / mashups i’ve been playing at gig’s over the last few months and some of the new ones I intend on playing in the next few months plus a few one off edits that will probably only ever be heard on this mix.
I will post the track listing soon so you can hunt down the tracks but a lot of the versions in this mix are my edits / remixes or mash ups that are not currently released. JUSTIN MARTIN IN WINNIPEG!

The doods over at SYMPTOM TECHNOLOGIES announced this show back in November and the day is almost upon us. It hasn’t come fast enough.

JUSTIN MARTIN and Claude VonStroke founded DIRTYBIRD RECRORDS a minute or two ago. You may remember ‘Who’s Afraid of Detroit?’ from 2006  - it came out on Dirtybird. While typically you might think of Dirtybird as yet another label releasing tech house, the fact is VonStroke and Martin injected avarian squelch, funk and swagger into the tech house template for just over a year now, creating their own bass movement.

This show will be insane, judging by one of my favourite records of 2010. Check out the event details here.

THE C90S + CYCLIST

“I Will Come Back” by Holy Ghost! was one of my favourite tunes last year. This rework CYCLIST did for THE C90S sounds quite similar, although the comparison can’t really be made until after the 3:30 mark. All in all, it’s a deadly track that morphs from modern disco to solitary dance floor theraputics.

There’s a new weekly club night in Winnipeg. If you haven’t guessed, it’s called CHECK YR PULSE, and well, Manalogue is half responsible for it. I DJ as a duo called THE SHAKE with the super deluxe LOTEK. Our beginning was pretty usual, playing parties for friends and such but we became a little more serious when we started hosting and programming our radio show called THE SHAKE which still keeps its focus by highlighting new dance music of many sorts.

The weekly, will focus a bit more on the underground – that’s where our roots are and every week we’re bringing in guests DJs with a goal of bringing the underground dance community together. To launch the night we have 14 13 local DJs playing, including ourselves. It all goes down tomorrow so if you’re in town, head to PURE. The club recently remodeled and didn’t skimp on the sound. I can’t wait to play there, it’s going to be sick! Here’s the lineup:
